I would say that just about any Porsche does not make sense economically! It's that whole intrinsic reward thing that's key.
I'm with Nugget. Perhaps you already do DE so I may be wasting this comment. If you start driving the car at the track you will realize that the car is PLENTY fast just the way it is. If you haven't done it, go to PSDS for the 2-day course. It will change your whole perspective on the 997.

Just got back from the PSDS Masters Course this week. Freakin awesome. No better feeling and bigger challenge than to work on "perfecting the perfect lap".
Take the Performance two-day course at PSDS which has been referred to as the Ultimate Test Drive and then decide what to do. PSDS is an investment that repays for the rest of your driving life.
And you get to drive just about everything Porsche makes at or close to its limit.

Wow, didn't expect so many wise replies. I think tracking it is the next evolution of my Porsche driving. Done the excessive speed driving on the highway system. Luckily, no tickets for reckless driving. It was fun but too dangerous. DE maybe next. May follow a fellow rennlister's experiences and drive cross country for one. Life's too short to not explore the unknown...BTW, went to Jerry deli's instead and chowed down a nice fat Pastrami...Hmmm, a true heart blocker meal...

The GT cars can extend the "comfort" envelope and visceral experience on the track, if one has the good sense to stay within their limits. They do provide for a different kind of excitement and entertainment.
If we take the 997 ability/capability to the extreme we could all save money and buy Boxsters (or 914s) because most are not capable of running them on the ragged edge either. In fact, come to think of it, most are not capable of balancing a push bike on the ragged edge.
I leave it to the buyer to judge, define and determine his "$ per smile" comfort level.

I have to admit it... I switched from a TT to a 997.2 PDK and as much as I like the car there's something missing. I've covered less than 700 miles in it and I'm looking for a change... I just missed out on a 2010 GT3 with the perfect spec for me. Damn! Soon I think its going to be another turbo or a GT3. Will this madness never end?
I little bit off topic, but how would you compare the 09 C4S with the 07 TT? Which one do you like the best?
Thanks,

Already have a 356. I was nozing around at RS Americas for sale a few days ago (sorry I sold mine that I bought new in 1993).

I have had a TT and 2 gt3s the new 997.2 PDK more than fills my passion bucket. It does everything the 996 GT3 and the TT did, and most of what the 997 GT3 did. You need to learn how to drive the car you have at a Track day. The car you have is more than enough. Once you drive it at 10/10ths then you can talk about getting a GT car.

In reply to the above. They are both entirely different drives. As different as night and day. Must say that I miss the awesome and effortless power of the 07 TT. I knew that would happen when I switched to the 09 C4S. What I didn't expect was for the 09 C4S to be this refined... almost bordering on being boring! Yes the PDK is a masterpiece, the car is very quick, and the flexibility to switch modes is great, but something, I can't quite put my finger on it, is amiss. Dare I say it, I actually preferred my 06 C4S to the 09 !
Maybe my issue is to do with PDK, I'm not sure. If I were to switch to a '10 TT it would be with a PDK as I think it would make for an awesome combination, power and instant shifts.
My preference between the 06 C4S or the 09 C4S PDK ? I would lean towards the 06.
My preference between the C4S (06 or 09 PDK) or the 07 TT? Without doubt the TT.
What am I going to do? Because my P car is not my daily driver and because I want every drive to be an event, I aim to look for a GT3 and if no success then place my order for a 2010 TT.

I think you definitely need a bigger adrenaline rush, the Carrera has plenty of that - but it's more subtle and sophisticated, something I like for everyday driving. To me the Carrera is an awesome sports car, but it doesn't scratch every itch.
You need that weekend brawler. I do too, this is why I have a 2008 GR40 Griggs Shelby GT500 with 675hp. It will handle on par with the best of them and in a straightline it's downright insane. It screams into triple digits below 9 seconds. This is where I get my adrenaline rush and every drive is an event.
Keep your 997 and get a 2010 GT3, throw on a full exhaust system - I bet this will make weekends more interesting.

Haku- my dealership has a 2010 GT3 in black on the showroom floor. It's sick! I'm not too far from you either, let me know if you're interested.

Tommy's is what you need. Cheeseburger with extra chili--please don't order one with no onions--and an order of chili cheeze fries. Maybe get one of their tamales too and you'll have the edge you're looking for

I felt that way when I had had my first pCar for six months.
So I bought...
'99 996 C2, sold it, got a '02 996 Targa, sold it, got a '07 997 C2S, sold it, got a '08 997 T2S, sold it got a '08 997 TT, sold it got a '08 997 C2S (again), sold it got a truck (huh? we were moving and I needed it), kept the truck but then got a '09 997 TT cab, sold it got a '07 997 GT3, sold it got a '09 997 C2S cab
My advice: keep the pcar you have. Get prozac.
