Best intakes for the 997S?
#7
I'd stay with Porsche parts for the intake. The Porsche X51 engine kit intake looks to be a very nice piece. Only problem with it is you have to cut another hole in your engine bay lid for a second intake. That's a deal killer for a lot of guys.

Curious Rolling Art, how much is the carbon X51 intake "box"?
I've yet to see an aftermarket intake that looks good, aesthetically, on a 911.
Now I have an EVO intake on my Boxster and it really sounds great, dyno suggested a 6hp increase (who knows?) and being a Boxster there were no cosmetic/aesthetic concerns - it's hidden.
I’m leaning toward a center muffler bypass too on my 997, the car should look stock, unless you climb underneath, and I’d like more of that flat-6 “noise”. An additional benefit, I’ll lose some lbs in the rear and gain a few hp’s.

I think that little plastic/rubber thingy gets you about 50 hp more. Duh.
Ever heard of low hanging fruit? Do you really think that Porsche didn't check all the ways to maximize hp production, without compromising reliability or durability?
The X51 CF airbox is a bit over $1000.

We will soon be releasing our new redesigned air intake for the 997.1 cars. The Air intake is all Carbon Fiber and will use a big heat shield to block off the hot air. The new air intake will make a 15+ HP increase on those cars and even more at the top end. I will post more information as soon as the intake is ready and on the shelf. Pm me if you have any questions or if you are interested and I will add you to the wait list. Our current cold air upgrade kit for the 997 is available and is the most simple upgrade you can make for more power and better throttle response on these cars.
Thanks,
Thanks,

I'm as skeptical as anyone when it comes to bolt on mods.
I put a Fabspeed on my 996, but my 997 has been bone stock.
I've done it for fun and done it for better sound, and done it for the hell of it, but my expectations are nil.
However, I can tell you that my car has been the crash test dummy for Fabspeed's new intake.
Had it on my car for 2 months, and without a doubt ,it made more power and sounded just fantastic.
I'm quite aware that it's easy to dupe yourself into thinking noise (even the sweet sound of a Porsche engine sucking air) equals more HP..but not the case here.
Clearly more midrange power.
I'm told more high end power also, but I can't say either way on that one
I think the dyno will tell the final tale.
I had to give my test unit back to Fabspeed, and I can't wait to get one next week when they become available.

The trouble with all of this is being able to do really effective dyno runs. There are so many variables involved that you have to factor them all in to keep the numbers valid. Most don't. I wish it was as easy as changing a little plumbing up front, but it's not.

I've got no financial interest in any tuner...I just know what fun feels like.
