Default Carbon Kit

Hello again,
Once again, I have an 07 C2S, black on black, adaptive sports seats, sport exhaust, etc--pretty basic options. As I have been very tempted in the past to upgrade (in fact signing the papers on a white 09 Turbo Coupe spec'd more to my liking), I have thought about adding the carbon kit including dash, shifter, rear center console, etc as a reason to keep my car longer, and save money). The local dealer quoted me just under 5K for this plus audio adapter ($750)--the total of course includes labor. Would anyone consider this as a reasonable option? Would it do anything to the resale value if I keep the car another 5-6 years. I am pretty sure I know the answer to these questions, but thought I would put it out there.

Thanks,
JKW

I was the beneficiary of almost 9k in carbon in my Targa that I bought with 3k miles on it. The price on my car was not to different to comparable used cars at the time. You will never get even a tinny fraction of the 5k you are spending. Do it because you like it and don't mind throwing your money away.

I ordered what I wanted and am enjoying it everyday. Someday, perhaps someone else will enjoy it, but don't move it too soon or you will simply take a bath.

In theory, you could be hurting the value as you are reducing the size of the market of people who would buy your car. Less demand means you may have to lower your price.

I personally don't like carbon fiber at all. Primarily because it was invented for function (low weight), but used in this case for cosmetics only.

I'm with Dan, though. Your car is for you, not for the next guy -- do what you want and enjoy it. You only get one shot at life. Paint it "Mary Kay" pink with fuzzy cow print seat covers if that's what churns your butter, all that matters is what you want. Fretting about resale price is focusing on the wrong part of the transaction.

I agree with the other opinions posted so far. Heavy factory options and aftermarket enhancements will not make the car more valuable when you sell it. If the car is stolen or destroyed in an accident, the same. You will get regular book value.

Looks like $1000 per year, your cost. Is it worth it to you?

Ok, a slightly different opinion: get what you want, keep the old parts and swap them back in once you decide to trade/sell your car (you will: very few of us keep pcars forever).

I have done a good bit of this myself. As in prior posts:1.Keep the old parts to swap back later, if you like.
You might get some costs back reselling. 2. I reall enjoy how it looks. 3. Additionally, Thanks to internet forums with lots of detailed instruction, I have had blast with the DIY projects. The process is rewarding in itself. Something I never dreamed of a few years ago.
Good luck.
