You guy's realize that the salesman has absolutely no control over the selling price of the car. It's up to the manager, if the manager chooses not to negotiate you screwed!

Every dealer's different ... and that's why it makes sense to talk to as many as possible. If they're hurtin' they'll call ya back soon enough. If they're fat and happy it's not worth trying to squeeze 'em anyway.

They're people, and like most people they good days and bad days. It's not worth getting PO'd over, there is usually another dealer you can try. Just move on and forget it, fretting over little things like is what will kill you.

There are good sales people and bad but what gets me the most are the ones who tell you they can't keep the cars on the lot and that they are selling every car as soon as they hit the floor, or they have 8 deposits so far for the new ones, etc. etc. In all fairness he smiled a lot and was willing to knock a good deal off the turbo, but only the 09, which doesn't have DFI. However there was an R8 at the door so the salesperson turned me over to an Audi salesman.....

There's a huge difference between what the OP reported and something like:

"Sir, our sales volumes have been exceptionally high recently and I'm sorry but we're probably not going to be able to work with you down to the price you've mentioned. If you are able to find that elsewhere, we hate to lose your business, but that's a better deal than we can offer at this time."

Typically when I get an arrogant snob the sales manager never has a chance to enter the picture. If the salesman is a dick I will figure it out and walk long before any pricing is discussed.

I don't understand the point of this posting. If a dealership doesn't understand the appropriate pricing of cars in the current economy they will fail. Ultimately none of us will have to deal with them in the future. I wouldn't waste the 0s and 1s to complain. They determine their own fate.

True... they don't have to be arrogant. The attitude usually stems from the top though!

There are nice people to do business with and arrogant people to do business with, its like that with every single profession in history. Big deal. Also what one person does not care for in a salesguy another might like.

Sorry to hear that you had a negative experience, really takes away from what should be a fun purchase in a buyers market (IMO). My local dealer has gone out of their way (twice in two years) to find a car that had the specs I was looking for by working with other dealers, while putting together deals that I could live with. I didn't buy a car in their inventory, but they still took the time to make me happy. Can't ask for more than that.

My dealer told me the cars are a hunk of metal that he needs to sell. Also every day they sit there the dealer looses money, and they need to sell cars to stay in business.

Porsche is picking up the cost to carry new inventory for dealers right now so even though we all want to sell our inventory its not costing much to carry right now. Even if they didnt do that interest rates are so low its cheap to carry inventory.

Just be happy you don't have to sell cars for a living.
I can only imagine, like most sales, it's a hard way to scrape out a living.
