911 Sport Classic

I know this is a 'limited edition', but Im wondering if Porsche is possibly gauging reception to next gen 911 features by producing this car.
There were some spy shots of what seems now to be the Sport Classic with the ducktail, bubble roof, dual exhausts minus bumperettes. Then there were a few others of a cabrio without bumperettes.
Bet that the ducktail and new interior material make it into the next gen 911 as options, along with no bumperettes and bubble roof.

I don't think there's anything much here that will pertain to the 991. The Cayman roof would be okay, but that's unimportant. With the "under new management sign" hanging out front, Porsche is surely going to "punctuate" their current products and we should see everything after 2010 revamped to suit the Piech and VW.
I'd like to think that after 20 or 30 years of half-assed attempts at bumperettes, Porsche might get around to solving the DOT test puzzle (it's something like 5 mph bump with only paint marring, then a 10 mph bump with less than $1000 damage? ... something like that ...) Anyway, if you ever take off the rear bumper cover, it seems to me there's ample space in there for moving the crumple tubes forward and generally making the rear overhang three or four inches shorter (obviating the need for bumperettes.)

Keep in mind that the 991 has already been designed. Been done for some time. VW picking up the company now has no impact with what the 991 will look like,--because it's already done. Porsche is years ahead on designs. This 911SC has nothing to do with the 991.

Does anyone else find the "clear" tail lights to be hideous? They clash with the whole theme of the car, and look like a cheap aftermarket mod. Like someone stuck Toyota Prius tail lights on the thing. Weird decision.
Love the rest of the aesthetics though.

We're talking 250 cars. There is still extraordinary wealth that remains untouched by the global economy, much more than most people realize. This car costs about as much as fueling a megayacht for a cruise around the Med, or a couple of custom watches made by people we've never heard of. On a more pedestrian level, a bailout bonus to an AIG European executive will pay for more than a couple of these cars. One man's roof is another man's floor.

While this new SC might be a big deal on rennlist, and other Porsche circles, the hype will not reach the super wealthy the same way if at all. They will likely receive a limited edition invitation as I did for the new GT2, and only if they are previous Porsche owners at that.
These people are Ferrari buyers.
It's amazing to see how even the nouveau riche will go from Porsche to Ferrari in an instant and never look back. I've seen it happen.

I don't think the extremely wealthy are only Ferrari buyers. In fact I feel that many extremely wealthy individuals tend to be on the more conservative side and this car provides just that. In my opinion the car is extremely elegant yet sporty plus it is a nod to Porsche's heritage. Many people would find Ferrari's and even GT3s and 2s to be ostentatious. On that note, when can I buy a ducktail.
