Default 997.2: why nobody with AWE side exhausts ?

Their setup was very popular with the 997.1, but I have not heard any 997.2 equipped with their product

Strange...

Or did Sharkwers take all the customers with their bypass pipe ?

Just wondering...

But why AWE exhaust products are not popular with the 997.2 ?

Rilely the X-pipe is a great addition to your '09 Carrera for increasing the sportscar sound of the DFI engine. Not only is the sound phenomenal, but the improvement in horsepower and torque will leave a smile on your face
If you can, take a video and post so we can hear how the custom mufflers sound combined with the X-Pipe bypass.

Also for those interested in mufflers for your 997.2 Carrera/Carrera S, Fabspeed now has a "Dual-Tone" Maxflo muffler available which you can manually switch from a docile "Quiet" selection to a more pronounced "Sport" selection. This muffler is constructed out of T304 stainless steel and features two selections which can be switched utilizing the supplied V-Band clamps. visit www.fabspeed.com for more information on the new "Dual-tone" Maxflo mufflers and more products available for your 2009 Carrera/Carrera S.

Joey, I was wondering when the dual core Maxflo 997.2S mufflers would come out. What is the price and what do they weight?

Thanks!

Mike the mufflers have been available since the beginning of the month, price $1,895 which includes both pipes for "Quiet" and "Sport" selections. The weight is 14.9lbs (6.7kg)/piece versus the OEM mufflers 17.4lbs (7.9kg)/piece.

It actually still is very popular.

As for the 997.2, I think much of it has to do with the debates over what makes power, what does not, and why.

Here is a synapsis of what we found regardless of what our competitors are claming. As always, in typical A.W.E. fashion, we are honest with our findings and will post up products regardless if it makes zero gain. We find too often the numbers are fudged just to move stock. Not our style...

1. X-pipes sound great, but made zero improvement in hp and tq.
2. Crossover pipes don't have as clean a sound as the X, but show gains in hp and tq.
3. Mufflers produce sound only. No gains in hp and tq.

The cross over pipes have been the most popular and are only $695!

For a complete review of our findings, and what we offer, please visit on 997.2 specific web page.

This week I stopped by Rennsport-1 in Pompano Beach FL and checked out their new center muffler system for the 997.2 series cars.

This system is built very nice and it sounds great...really great! With out the side mufflers this is the lightest system going for a 997.2 series car. There is no drone and the car sounds perfect inside and out.

On a 997.2 version I have experienced the full Tubi exhaust system that my friend has and I have experienced the Sharkwerks crossover by- pass pipes and the Fabspeed side muffler by pass pipes.

The rear center Rennsport-1 muffler makes a lot of sense to a guy like me due to much lighter weight and shorter exhaust gas travel. Back in September 08 when I took delivery of my car I emailed a few exhaust manufactures about doing a good center muffler only. I was told it was not needed to it would not work. They all were wrong!

1st off I am already doing something similar to this with the Fabspeed side muffler by pass pipes. On my car I just use the center muffler/resonator with no side mufflers. This stock center muffler is not really a muffler but a resonator and with the Fabspeed by pass pipes the car is loud. It sounds great at the track and for a weekend toy but I would say it is too loud as a daily driver. With my Fabspeed side muffler by pass pipes and center muffle/resonator only there is drone at a little throttle from 2000-2400 rpm and the drone makes it a little hard to talk on the cell phone but it's doable. But that is me and my wife hates the volume of our car.

The Rennsport-1 center muffler allows you to by pass the heavy side mufflers like my Fabspeed pipes but it is much quieter than they way I am doing it with just the stock center muffler/resonator. The Rennsport-1 center muffler sounds extremely good....I mean really good from inside and outside the car. At deceleration you get a nice subdued burble and under throttle the car sound exotic. At part throttle from 2000-2400 rpm there is exhaust sound but not a ton of drone. Obviously this system is louder than stock so inside the car you will naturally hear the exhaust more but it sounds really good and is not annoying. At 2700-3200 there is not much exhaust sound in the car at all. When you get the rpms up further the car sounds very exotic and has a nice wail type of sound that is characteristic of a Porsche. Rennsport-1 did some full throttle fly by's and outside the car the volume was enough so you noticed something exotic was going by but not obnoxiously loud to attract unwanted attention. To me this is the way a Porsche should sound.

And how do you compare these 3 systems between each other ?

Full Tubi: the loudest and nicest ?
Sharkwerks and Fabspeed bypass pipes: almost the same sound, but very subtle change compared to stock ?

I suggest you go to each manufactures site 1st and check out there offerings. Most have video's of there system options.

Keep in mind I am ONLY speaking of 2009 cars...totally different exhaust system than the 2005-08 cars. So go do some research and come back and re-read my reivew and it will make more sence and answer you questions.

The Fabspeed side muffler by pass pipes I have are loud...the loudest so far.
The Full Tubi sounds great, a few db more at idle and slow street use and it opens up nicely at full throttle and higher rpms
Sharkwerks is stock like quiet at idle and slow street use with slightly more sound at higher RPM's
The Rennsport-1 center muffler only...you take the side muffler off really sound awesome. This system used a center muffle ronly...see the pics...has a exotic deep sound at idle and is louder than the Tubi but not as loud as the Fabspeed side muffler by pass pipe which remove the side mufflers and only use the center resonator.

I do not know how else to explain this any better but I hope it helps. Do some searching and visit the wbesite and you will find you answer.

mdrums: Thanks for your reply

I have checked these system for some months now, but I am not familir with the Rennsport 1 setup, that's why I asked

And according to the videos I have seen:

- Fabspeed: don't like the too high sound of the side pipes, neither of their loud exhaust version

- Full Tubi: love the sound at idle, but have not heard it on a car in motion

- Sharkwerks bypass pipes: I have this setup and it's exactly as you describe it: almost same as idle and a bit louder than stock at high RPM's

964C4, yes the Fabspeed side muffler by pass pipes and pretty loud. They are louder than what 99% of the people on these boards would put up with. I am somewhat of a 1%'r anyway....and I put up with them however it is getting a little annoying.

This is why I love the Rennsport-1 center only muffler. Not to lound not to quiet, light weight due to no side mufflers, short exhaust gas route so it will probably make more power.

No, I do not know of a 4 wheel dyno near me. Need a 4 wheel dyno if you have a PDK car due to sensors.
