pdk wheel mounted levers
The excellent PDK twin-clutch gearbox can now be specified with standard wheel-mounted levers – pull the left to change down and the right to shift up – rather than the confusing push button setup on earlier versions.
This is a piece from the MY2010 turbo release; like I mentioned before this option will also be available on the other 911 models.

I hope Porsche would go further and make this a retro fit for the 09 PDK cars and make it affordable too.

I think that the L/R paddle steering wheel is an option. It's not a better system according to many. YMMV.
Edit: This is the genuine PAG text:
"Models equipped with PDK are also available with a new, optional three-spoke steering wheel with gearshift paddles as an alternative to the standard steering wheel with its proven shift buttons. Fitted firmly on the steering wheel, the right paddle is for shifting up, the left paddle for shifting down. In conjunction with the optional Sport Chrono Package Turbo both the gearshift paddle and the PDK steering wheel with its shift buttons come with integrated displays for Launch Control and the Sport/Sport Plus mode, which are however designed differently on the two steering wheels."

Exactly the way my AMG was. However when turning in hard the buttons go different directions and tring to keep in the right gear may be harder than with the standard buttons.

I wish they'd fixed the paddles to the column (ala ferrari) instead of to the wheel. I think I'd rather have the buttons than paddles that aren't fixed.. I had the same problem as old guy with the paddles that moved with the wheel. In a tight corner, I had to think to much about where the darned upshift paddle was.

love the idea of paddles but if not fixed i think the buttons work better.. eventho hands should always be 10 and 2... when driving day to day you turn the wheel and shift.
