Clutch squeak - please help diagnose
This used to occur only when the car is cold and has sat for a night or two. The squeaks were not very pronounced. After the car warms it would always disappear.
I went for some pretty hard driving in the country roads tonight. Afterwards when the car was very hot, engine off, the clutch squeaks as I press the pedal.
I'm worried that it might be the clutch fork, bearing, etc. Before I take it to the dealer and have them pull it apart, I was wondering if this is something to be concerned about in the first place. (This is the first time that it has squeaked when warm)
Anyway, I'm beyond warranty period...so this might be an expensive ordeal?

You or a tech could take a look at a car and see if a bit of extra lubrication -- I'd not go overboard, just a drop or two of the right stuff -- at/on the various pivot points of all accessible clutch hardware, inside and outside of the cabin helps reduce the noise or even eliminate it.
If it does, result!
If it does not, then if the clutch is not exhibiting any other untoward behavior and shifting action is not affected, consider if you can living with the noise.
If clutch acting up, shifting giving you problems, you might have to have the tranny dropped and the clutch looked at, probably replaced, and of course any worn, or damaged or broken clutch linkage hardware replaced. In this case you should ask tech as he assembles the clutch hardware he apply a bit of high temperature high pressure grease or some other appropriate lubrication to all pivot/friction points of the clutch hardware. (When I had my 02 Boxster in for its RMS/IMS seal fix I asked the tech do this and clutch hardware action has been just fine and the hardware has been very quiet, only developing a bit of a low volume "squeak" in the last year or so. I might add I had the car in for its RMS/IMS seal fix sometime in 02 and at around 20K miles. Over 220K miles later car is still on its original clutch so a tiny dab of grease at the proper locations can keep clutch hardware quiet a long long time.)
But before you tear into clutch see if lubing accessible pivot/friction points helps any.
Sincerely,
Macster
Noise that's there then not suggests just a minor lube problem. If noisy lube point outside of bellhousing then treating all accessible lube points to a tiny dab of proper grease or a spray of some penatrating dry lube, whatever tech advises be used, could have noise gone even in cold weather.
Sincerely,
Macster.
