nice write up! I only have a 'lowly' stock 996 cab for the past two years, but continue to enjoy it immensely, especially during Tucson's mild winter climate!
I can only imagine what a newer 997.2 PDK, etc, would be like.
I wear a baseball cap when driving with the top down, and if I resent anything, its an over-size SUV blocking the passing lane.

I thought I was being funny! Alot of my jokes turn out this way (i'm a a$$hole) One time a friend of mine (nice looking beach girl) walked in, in a drop dead gorgeous dress. I said "Who Died?" She said "my Grandma" I shrinked off to the corner and didnt speak again that day.

My second car is an Audi A3 Sportback 2.0T as well. Used it mostly on rainy days.
Three months ago I bought the 2005 Carrera S (manual transmission) after enjoying the E46 M3 for over 5 years. While I did own a Carrera 3.2 back in the late 80's, the 3.8 Carrera S is so much different in comparison with the M3 and the 3.2. I almost chose the E92 M3(V8) instead but was deterred by the poor performance of BMW in motorsport activities. Sounds irrational but that's me.
Here in Hong Kong, virtually nobody wants (or dare not handle?) a manual 911. I approached the local distributor and learnt that it had to be specially ordered! Auto models were immediately available from stock, due probably to the financial downturn.
Back to my ownership experience...
The biggest difference is the TORQUE. It's so satisfying and immediate. Coupled with the sound of the boxer engine, the feeling is so unique that I just don't have any doubt about giving up the M3.
I must express my gratitude to those who have provided technical info in this and other similar forums on the internet. Thanks to them I've completed three minor DIY projects.
a) steering wheel replaced by a TechArt wheel (I missed the thickness of the M3 steering wheel)
b) the rear center console replaced by a Tequipment console. The old one have marks and scratches.
c) manual shift **** replaced by Tequipment carbon fiber ****. Again some scratches found .
Also I've hardwired the Escort 8500.
Now, I just have to wait for non-rainy days-- which regrettably are few and far between in summer months when tropical storms are so fond of visiting this part of the world one after the other.
Nothing to report on the non car stuff so far.
