Hey Guys,
Like a number of you, I'm thinking of jumping into the market again and trading in my 05 C2S for a new 09 PDK.
The two cars I'm looking at are the Targa 4S Launch car in Macadamia and the C4S Launch in Meteor.
My main concern about the Launch Targa 4S is that there is no sport chrono. My current 05 C2S is a tip with sport chrono, and on a tip, the sport chrono makes ALL of the difference -- it drastically remaps the shifting points to be much sportier and aggressive. Does this have the same effect on the PDK?
On the C4S, my main concern is the bucket seats -- can't stand them. But everything else about the car I love. Will the dealer or PCNA consider swapping out the seats?
I'm looking at launch cars primarily since 1) i can't seem to find a targa pdk thats not a launch car; 2) the c4s launch pretty much is the ideal car option wise except for the seats; and 3) i'm being led to believe that better deals can be had on these launch cars then other randomly equipped cars (true?)
Any advice on any of the above would be much appreciated!
Thanks,
Dave

I would most definitely get the sport chrono. It is perfect, without it, it seems like a different car. As far as swapping the seats, it can be physically done, it is just at what price.

With PDK the Sport Chrono unlocks the full performance (ie. faster shifting, better shift modes) of PDK. I would not own a PDK car with out it.
I have PDK Sport Chrono on my 09 and I use Sport mode on the street especially if I drive it in auto mode. I use Sport PLUS on the track all the time in manual mode.

I can't comment on the seats, but I absolutely agree with the others, if the car doesn't have SC, don't get PDK. The standard gearbox setting is set to achieve a fuel economy figure (that I never get close to) and the gearbox is constantly 1 or 2 gears higher than I want. I use 'Sport' all the time on the road, both in Manual and Auto. I would buy a manual/stick car in preference to a PDK with no SC?

Agreed on the PDK with SC. Without SC, PDK will shift up quickly, making the characteristics of the car fairly tame. However, if you are willing to shift PDK manually, then perhaps this is an acceptable compromise.

SC should be standard w/ the PDK. The timer is certainly expendable but not the programming. I would not advise purchasing PDK w/o SC no matter how attractive the pricing. The seats can probably be swapped out by the dealer if you are ready to do the deal and that's the breaker.

I recently asked about swapping seats when getting my 09 TT and, basically, no can do (cannot swap with another new car, and otherwise it was cost prohibitive).

What dealer are you working with? Downtown has similar cars but C4S has regular seats. If you want to take a look Downtown, PM me, I can hook you up with the right people down there.

+1 on SC+. My car is MUCH more responsive compared to the base 996 Tip w/o SC that I used to have. Perhaps the engine also has something to do with the difference. ![Wink](https://rennlist.com/forums/images/smilies/wink.gif)
Did the T4S feel heavy? My recollection is that it weighs 300+ more pounds than your C2S? I would definitely want SC if I got one with PDK.

You might want to talk to some of the aftermarket suppliers (eg sharkwerks, GMG, etc) They may have a client who will very happily trade his standard seats for your buckets and cover your swap out labor charges.

thanks guys for the responses. i've pretty much ruled out all of the pdk's without sport chrono. does anyone know if there's a meteor or macadamia targa4s with pdk+sport chrono in their area? i'm also still looking at the c4s launch pdk but the seats are becoming more and more of an issue...stay tuned

Porsche of Chatnooga has a launch edition C4S in Meteor Grey with Black Full Leather with the power comfort seats. Stocker is $109,760. I recall seeing a coouple of other dealers that had the C4S without the sport seats, but I don't remember which dealers had them.

I think SC is a nice feature, but I don't know that I'd say it is a must. I do use sport mode often, but the car is not bad without it at all.
