Agree with both of these posts
Lamborghini is producing phenomenal cars under VW ownership, by some margin the best cars it has ever built. Whether Porsche owned VW or, as is now likely, VW owns Porsche the net result would probably have been the same and it's probably something that will indeed benefit us as owners.

True, but that's not necessarily bad thing. The Lambo interior shows some Audi influence, that's true, but there's nothing wrong with it. I'm not sure Ferrari is completely exempt from Fiat Group part sharing either.

As we begin a new era, post an independent Porsche organization, it will be interesting to follow along and see how the elitists handle this change. Will they admit to their friends that they drive what is ultimately a Wolfsberg creation? Perhaps some of the elite air cooled vice water cooled elitist behavior will taper off as well.
So just like some of the more myopic air cooled guys for whom time stands still in 1998, I will not consider a car post model year 2009.

It will be interesting to see what new cars come out of this marriage. The Porsche knowhow blended with VW's. I would think that Audi will get closer to Porsche. How about an R8/911 technology mix? My VW Jetta has the same engine as my Audi A4 but they are totally different cars. You can use common components and stil have a different product. I need to remind myself that these are businesses who today exist for profit.
I would think that the companies will keep their separate identities. To this date Audi dealerships are seperate from the VW's. They have different customers and sell to different markets.Perhaps Porsche will focus on the sports side with the 998? Cayman Boxster R8?, Audi on the sedans A3 to A8 + Panamera. How about a diesel 911?
The traditionalists will always be there.They have a role in reminding everyone of the origins of our cars. I'm sure that some 386 owners think it's the last original Porsche , right? Same thing for the 911 owners who think the 964 is not a real one. The 993 crowd believe they own the last true ones. The owner of the last 997.2 built will certainly expect his to be the last one ever to be true P-car.He will also call it a 911 to demonstrate affiliation with the original 911. This argument will never end. The concept is similar to that of a family. Sure the younger ones are better but they could not have been without it's ancestors. What really counts is how you feel behind the wheel and how it performs.
