Locking the Car While Underway - Poll
Do you lock the doors when you're underway? Have you programmed the car to do it for you automatically?
Are you West or East of the Mississippi River? (Have some theories on that).

Programmed it to lock. There are a lot of carjackings in Phoenix. Maybe this will at least give me a moment to pull away, or reach for... well AZ is a CCW state.

Car does it automatically but if it ever stopped doing so I wouldn't care enough to figure out how to turn the feature back on. I've lived west of the Mississippi for about a decade but I'm still a Hoosier at heart.

East of Mississippi - auto lock when moving (wife's preference), but I'm finding it can be a pain to unlock when exiting the car. Sometimes I have to push the button twice, so I might change the programming.

Situational awareness. I lock the car myself. The car key is always separate from the house keys. Don't think it can't happen. It does and it takes only seconds if you aren't paying attention to your surroundings.

Wast of the Mississippi - never lock it. If I were worried about car jackings, this is the last thing I'd do. I don't plan on having a shootout over a car, I have this magic stuff called "insurance". If they want the car, they can have it. Having the doors locked might provoke them to violence, and they're probably better equipped to do violence on short notice than I am.

Please edit your poll - you don't have a "I don't lock my doors..." (and don't have need to). The closest you have is unlocked "most of the time".

Unfortunately, I don't know how to edit a poll once it is underway. (I don't think you can). I typically do as OCBen does,--routinely never lock the doors unless I'm in an environment that I think locking the doors may be helpful.
One of the neat things about these cars is that, in the event of a serious accident (where airbags have gone of, the car shuts down the fuelpmp, the ignition, and unlocks the doors for you).
My choice of the word underway is not germane to the poll other than to differentiate between moving and sitting still.
My theory is that the east is more urban than the west, so I was expecting to see more auto-locking east of the Mississippi River. That geographical cutoff was somewhat arbitrary.

I was partly kidding about editing the poll. Making a point that there are still places where you don't need to lock the car while underway...ever.

Those are few and far between, Ron...
I actually need to reset my PCM - I usually turn off all autolocking for fear of a lockout at a car wash, etc. Now that I'm moving into a house, I get to wash my own cars again!!

West of the Big River. Car locks once underway. That's how the car was set up by the original owner and I think I'll keep it this way.
On a similar note, I DO NOT have the passenger mirrow go down upon reverse. Hate that.
