Default Help re:Drilling holes in bottom of bumper

I have seen some aftermarket license plate brackets that attach under the front bumper. I think I should be able to fabricate something similar.
My plan would be to drill two or three holes underneath the front lip and then insert plastic "body rivets/anchors".
My question is to anyone who has removed the front bumper cover and is there anything behind the bottom lip that would cause problems when drilling?

Don't do that! Do what I did. Remove the center filler panel (unless you have a center radiator.) Put some bolts into that with significant fender washers for back up, and then mount something to which you can attach your plate.

You should never drill into anything painted.

^^^ nice solution. I've also seen a kit where you utilize the front tow hook area to afix your plate to.

Perhaps, I wasn't clear. I would be attaching an "L shaped" bracket underneath, with the holes drilled in about the same place where the center screw is drilled for the skid plate.

You'll find that bolting it in along the front bottom will be too low,--it may grind off over time. We have little clearance there. Just to give you an idea,--with a USA plate mounted I scrape the bottom of the plate frame periodically.

That will be interesting the first time it gets caught on a driveway or entry way. It looks pretty cool and I hope it works out for you.

Guess i'll have to pay more attention when entering driveways. If it does get hooked hopefully it pulls my whole front bumper off so I'll have a reason to put a GT3 replacment on

I'll be the guinea pig and let you guys know how it works out.

That's a cool set up for the front plate. Very "James Bond," but it wouldn't survive even the minor incline into my driveway.
I think you're going to have to be more than "careful" with that thing in position under your front bumper. That's got to hang down at least 2-inches in a spot where you don't have 2-inches to spare.
Why can't 'front license plates' be permanently eliminated? Think of the money governments could save producing only rear license plates. Cuts costs in half on everything from materials to manufacturing to mailing.

Because they want to be able to take a picture of you and the license plate as you are speeding down the road. Also, its a great place for the lazer cop to aim at.
