Hi,

I've just acquired some PSE mufflers (excluding the wiring harnewss). A couple of questions.

1) I understand the PSE is by default "on" so if I install the mufflers without the wiring harness they should in "sports" mode, i.e loud - is that correct ?

2) I may install the wiring harness later - anyone know how much the harness and solonoid is ?

2) Not sure, but you could probably find one one from someone who didn't do the electronics. Mine is in the garage somewhere.

EDIT: Opps, forgot I was in the 997 forum, mine's a 996, but I bet one of the 997 DIY PSE installers has one too.

 

Somehow I doubt you will ever want it on silent after you hear it though.

I have to recommend the harness and the switch capability,--but are you talking about a coupe? The cabriolets with PSE have been tuned to be a bit louder than the coupes so perhaps that's why I like the choice. The other day I was behind a non-PSE coupe and was so disappointed in that sound (997.1)

 

My cab has PSE with the electronics -I love the sound but there are times when the natural sound is best.

The PSE mufflers on a cab are different than the PSEs on a coupe ? Different part numbers ? How is one able to determine the difference ?

 

I have mine with the electronics - I just unplugged the electronics and enjoy full PSE all the time.

 

The difference in price for PSE with and without the electronics at Carnewal (http://www.carnewal-europe.com/main.htm) is 100 euros, so about $140. I suggest you call Suncoast Porsche in Florida to see if they have it, otherwise Carnewal is a great supplier.

 

I have mine hardwired to a switch and like that the best. I can either switch it on or off and do not have to deal with the 20-50MPH auto cutoff.

Since I have a cab there are plenty of times I switch it off when the top is down.

 

apw964, there is an install set with change-over valve, wiring harness, and tie wrap, p#997.612.905.00, runs about $200. You would also need the dash control switch, but this does not come as single button, so you need to get the whole combined switch based on the different options you have. This will run you another $100.

Keith, according to PET PSE mufflers are same for all M96.05 and M97.01 engines including the IX51 option equipped S cars no matter they put them in a tin top or a rag top.

Thanks for all the replies. I have PASM and Sport Chrono so I won't need the extra switch. I think I will ultimately install the switch though.

The fedex tracking number says my exhasut arrives on 6/2. Looking forward to installing it on 6/6 :-)

 

I have PASM and SC too, but still opted, like some others here, to wire it to a dedicated switch (in the ashtray) so that I can control it independently of the sport mode and independent of speed. I really enjoy having the option for louder or quieter. It depends on my mood. BTW, installing the wiring etc. is about the same amount of work, or perhaps more, than installing the mufflers.

 

I though the electronic install on the 997.1 was seriously more work than the mufflers alone. Is it different for the 997.2? I have been thinking about exhaust upgrade but had prior issues. in a 996 tip I had to remove fabspeed as the constant drone in traffic was truly annoying, never experienced this with PSE, even with vacuum disconnect in 997.1. Is there feedback from PDK + Sharkwerks/fabspeed/pse yet?

 

I suspect every thing is the same between Cab and Coupe. The fact that a Cab has a 'soft top' and the rear 'passenger' compartment is different might change the sound of the exhaust to some degree from the driver's position.

I've never seen any mention, other than Dan's, regarding a special PSE or tune for the Cab. I did quite a bit of research when I bought my PSE and installed it a couple of years ago . . . . . never encountered a Cab version.
