Paint Chip Repair

Paint Chip Repair
I have suffered my first paint chip on my 997.1 and would like to get it repaired. It is on the top of the plastic bumper portion of the car, and pretty small. Does anyone have a referral for a repair person in the NE Ohio area? I don't know if I should contact the Porsche dealers in the area or search out a specialist. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

If you want to do it yourself, you might want to check out this system -- http://www.langka.com/
It is very highly regarded by the 993 and 964 crowd.

I used the Dr. Color Chip kit (http://www.drcolorchip.com/) on multiple rock chips on my car and it worked extremely well.
The kit comes with it's own paint that they match to your car. You tell them on the www site which color you have.

Thanks for the suggestions! I contacted four Porsche dealers in my area, and two of them suggested I bring it to their body shops for a no charge touch-up with a brush. The other two suggested specialists, which I am going to try first. At least one of the "specialist" uses an airbrush to repair the chip. Based on the results and costs I may end up trying the langkal method which sounds the best of all of the diy methods. I also checked out an invisible bra and was kind of surprised to learn that the pricing was between $650 and $900 for my car. Seemed kind of high.

Thanks Hockeyman! Go Wings?? You are right about the difference in clear bra installations. I was at a PCA event and was shown the difference between a pre-cut bra and a custom bra installed and cut on the car.

Unfortunately I'm a Rangers fan so this year was a bit rough at the end. I'm neutral in the finals and just hope that it's better than the Conference Finals, those were brutal.
You're welcome for the advice, just glad I could help out.

I got a chip on my cars front bumper last year. I should point out I am really **** about my car. It's an Arctic Silver 997, and flawless. I went nuts trying to get the chip repaired just right. Finally, I broke down and took it to a body shop and had the whole bumper re-done. I know I have a problem. I then I had the whole front end wraped in clear bra. So far so good. I don't know what color your car is. I had a guards red 996 that was pretty easy to touch up. Arctic Silver might be easy to keep clean, but it's really hard to touch up. Good luck.

Mine is Arctic Silver also. I am going to get the clear bra after I get the chip repaired. On the clear bra, did you get Venture Shield or 3M? I am hearing that the Venture Shield is superior.

+1 for Langka. Make the recommended mound from clear, not the base color.
The damn rocks always find places the clear bra doesn't cover. They did not have the full hood kit available when I bought the 997. It is going on the 993 as soon as the bumper respray cures. The hardest thing is parking the car and waiting 45 days.

Thanks Pete! Your Club Coupe is gorgeous!! I would love to see pictures of that Carrera. Is that the one that they only made 50 of? Also, what type of clear bra do you use? I now realize that 3M purchased Venture Shield, but I believe there is still a difference between the two.
