Default 997.2 S exhaust sounds deeper after 5000 miles

This could be just me but I have over 5000 miles on my 2 1/2 month old 997.2 S and the exhaust sounds deeper. Should I just shut up and drive or should I be concerned?

stuff breaks in.. i especially love how on most front engine cars when you lower the exhaust sounds meaner and meaner over time (from hitting stuff and getting leaks)lol..

ENJOY and don"t worry. Add a Sharkwerks center muffler by pass ans it sounds even better and you lose 10 lbs where it counts the most. 5000 on my '09 C2S also (delivered in Jan) Back to ENJOY and don't worry

I've noticed with my 1 month old 09 C2S that 2 days on the track have dramatically improved the note. I do have the Sharkwerks primary bypass on - sure sounds great now with 2500 miles and 2 days of exercise. Can't wait until I hit 3-4000 miles, when the ECU is fully past "break in" mode and into the full power and torque band.

I missed the PSE sound, and 5000 miles is a long time to wait. I am going to Sharkwerks to get the primary bypass.

Very well then. I'll be adding some more miles this weekend with a drive up to Santa Barbara and the Chumash Casino.

Typically, these engines develop a better sound as things working in to each other. This is normal.

To answer the question - I've known this for years, since my first 997. Each service manager, including my most recent one a week ago, has said the same thing, and I've read a few posts over the years saying the same. That the ECU is set up in "break-in mode", which eventually goes away somewhere between 3 and 4k miles. I remember when my 07 reached about 3600 miles and all of a sudden I had more power and torque - so I figured they were telling the truth. Never saw anything official from PCNA about it...

The more time you spend close to redline the better they sound over time. If you idle around for 20k miles it won’t sound as good as a car that has been driven like you mean it. I have 50k miles on a 997.1 C2S and just about every mile is within a few RPM's of redline. I get lots of comments about the exhaust note and it is completely stock. Every car I have ever had has this same quality over a garage queen counterpart.
