Default front LED lights?

spent ten minutes searching for this but search function was beginning to frustrate me.

i remember this being discussed before somewhere here: what's the cost of upgrading front fog lights to LED? i think the rears are on suncoast for ~$800 or so, couldn't find info on the fronts.

realize you'd need a whole new front bumper to make it true 997.2, but wondered if there was something "997.2-esque"

The 997.2 does not have fog lights. There are LED daytime running lights though, if thats what you mean.

yup that's what i meant. cost of turning 997.1 fog lights into 997.2-like DRLs.

As they are not a form, fit , function replacement it is not inexpensive. Porsche reevaluated the merits of 'fog lights' and found that the anti-dazzle features of the Bi-Xenons is inherently so good that fog lights are simply redundant, and there would be better merit in daytime running lights as seen on the Audi R8. Even the headlight switch in your car is different. The shape of the newer light is considerably different so you can't just pop it into that space.

too much work because they dont swap.. need new bumpers and etc for proper fitment..

cheaper to buy an LED strip and put it into your current fogs and connect into your DRL's or something else to be on... people do that all the time on older audi/VW to give it that new LED look.

Dont do it! You will damage residuals on your car far more than the actual cost to change them.

Many people wouldnt touch such a "hybrid" car, even though the lights are mainly a cosmetic change I think they would be suspicious of other changes that might have been made that arnt obvious.

Better to do the job properly and trade it in for a full gen2 car!

The key to doing this sort of thing is to retain reversibility.

Exactly. I'd buy a set of 997.1 fog light housings, build LED systems to go inside them, and then just replace the existing units in the car with my LED variants.. the other requirement is to build a wiring harness that powers things from the DRL line rather than a fog electrical line. But if you don't have xenons on the car, the fog lights still serve a valuable purpose.

I would skip the LEDs on the 997.1 unless you can get a clean set-up like Minok suggested.
Here is the best option otherwise for the 997.1

I would trade in the 997.1 for a 997.2.

I would love to trade the LED lights, but swapping the car is way too expensive. not an option for me. But the LED's do look mighty cool !!
