Default turn signals

been scooting around in the new P-car and, well, i end up changing a lot of lanes. not in a dangerous weaving fashion. more in looking ahead and predicting the path of least resistance.

it inspired some thoughts, but instead of boring/biasing you with mine, i propose a little poll of how we use our turn signals in typical interstate traffic...

The one-push "three blink" turn signals are very useful.
I know most German cars have 'em. All cars should.
Might get people to use their turn signals on the freeways more.

Agree. One touch, three blinks should clearly alert those drivers who are awake, not on the phone, or not impaired by one or more chemicals affecting the brain.

I use the three blink due to its ease and my politeness. moreover, nothing infuriates me more than when someone does not blnk at all. In those instances, I typically get agitated, pass them, lane change in front of them (using my blinkers), and then mash on my super great brakes, while simultaneously mashing the throttle (so I don[t get rear-ended). I tell you, nothing is more satisfying than watching the nose of their car "DIP" down, and the cell phone fly out of their hand as they realize they were not paying attention. Its my little way of giving back. (true story)

I leave one of mine on all the time. I try to alternate to save bulbs.

Hell, why not just put on the 4 way flashers! Keep 'em guessing!

In NJ, turns signals are sign of weakness.
We only use them after we started to change lanes.

yea its a whole different story in traffic. hilarious to watch some guy sitting in the same lane for 2 minutes with his flashers on while no one lets him in.

isn't this kind of a recipe for a road-rage incident?

i agree of course, that >50% of the time if you siide up next to a car that just executed a stupid/dangerous move the driver is still busy chatting away oblivious to what they have just done. but with actions as you describe i would think sooner or later you will run into someone with worse anger-management skills who decides it's your lucky day.

Turn signals are apparently an option everywhere I've ever been, merging and turning. I'm on the road quite a bit for work, so it's one of my pet-peeves. Don't even get me started on driving in the passing lane when not passing someone. People think the left lane(s) is the fast lane. WRONG! It's the passing lane. I've done 100mph in the right lane. I love passing the idiots in the right lane, then giving them a "what an idiot driver you are" look as I pass them.

99.99% blinker user here. I use mine in order to let everyone know where I'm getting ready to merge/turn...not asking their permission.

NJ and NY has the absolute WORST drivers in the country.
No wonder insurance is so high there.

In Southern California, using your car to "express" your displeasure or anger at someone's else's driving is an immature invitation to great bodily harm. It may not happen today, or even tomorrow, but eventually, driving to provoke confrontations is going to create a problem you can't speed away from.

As far as the worst state for drivers? I'd vote Florida - where people often put their turn-signals on the minute they leave their driveways...and just leave 'em on. I believe it's referred to as the "eventual left turn" (or right). Geesh.
