Laser Jammer install for those interested
Laser Interceptor Quad install on 2006 Porsche 997C4S
Well the install is finally done. A good buddy of mine and I spent a few days on the installation and the pictures below show the results. First a disclaimer. I decided to run 3 heads up front and 1 in the rear. Since the far majority of the encounters I have had with laser have been head shots I wanted full and probable overkill coverage in that area. I realize I am probably sacrificing coverage in the rear to do this however. (Stealth Stalker has volunteered to help test the setup and hopefully that will take place in the next couple of weeks. That will give us some good date points as to what protection I do or do not have in the rear.)
Anyway, here is what we did. We first put the car on my lift and then took off the front and rear bumpers, ran the cabling and installed the heads. They all are even with the front bumper or rear in that case and not recessed. The heads are level and pointed straight ahead. Power was taken from a switched power hub located under the driver side dashboard. The On/Off switch is located just below the parking brake handle. (It is the forward button. The rear button is a power switch for the sports exhaust.) We wanted this location for its stealthyness as well as easy access. (I can easily reach this location by hand reference of the parking brake and do not have to look down for it.) We also used an Escort external speaker, (Located behind the PCM pointed towards foot pedal area) with the volume control mounted on the side a few inches above where my right knee is when driving. (Also easily reachable but unseen unless you stick your head in the floorboard area.)
I’ll report back when I get some performance validation following the testing.

looks good..
almost have the same car combo and jammer combo. i just have diff placement of the switches and radar lights.... have them swapped to just LED's poking thru the console that arent noticed unless blinking
i think its illegal all over? i know its illegal for me for sure... but legal is never fun... i consider it a ticket insurance policy.. as long as the off is within reach if ever in trouble just turn it off... i chose to have all my stuff hidden better just incase.
heres my controls/displays..

what i found in a quick search:
some states have enacted their own laws that do prohibit the ownership and/or use of these devices. These states include: Nebraska, Minnesota, Utah, California, Oklahoma, Virginia, Colorado, Illinois and Washington DC

all the modern laser guns have a jammer code they throw if they are being jammed.
in the Peoples Republik of Illinois they will simply impound your vehicle and remove the offending illegal device along with your ticket, they wont be as careful removing it as you were installing it, and they will bill you for their loving service.

Thanks for the detailed photos. The only issue I take with this set up is that it is certainly not low profile. it's very evident that something non-standard is mounted on the car, particularly the front.
What detector is used to sense lasing,--and trigger the jammers? Where is that device's receiver?
I guess I need to hurry up and finish the design work on my passive laser 'jammer' that contributes to a 'break-lock' on these cars. It takes no power.
Is there a supercharger on your engine? I noticed some different plumbing, as well as that third radiator.

Very nice installation. One suggestion - You might consider adding a thin black rear license plate frame to let the rear sensor "blend in" better. Porsche makes one with no logos that works well.

Hi Dan,
No doubt the middle jammer, both front and rear is highlighted by the silver behind. In the front it is more evident because I used a flash for the picture. There were some great ideas to get a black license plate frame to help hide the rear. I’ll look into that.
All the sensors individually sense jamming and all fire once detected to defeat it. They isolate the pulse rate and fire back the same to effectively jam the transmitter. (Newer Police guns throw a jam code) The receiver is actually within the actual jammer and is the “bubble” you see on the head.
Certainly if you walk up to the car and look at it you will notice the heads however I don’t really need a completely stealth install since they are legal here in Texas. (I see many other jammer setups on Porsches here already. Predominantly Passport SRX with ZR3/4 jammers as well as K-40) The more stealth I go I more I negatively affect the performance. (This is not my first laser jammer setup. I also had Blinder J11’s on my M3 and K1200S)
As for the car, good observation, I have a VF-Engineering super charger.

I also have the Laser Interceptor Quad, except I have two regular heads in the front and two of the slim heads mounted vertically on either side of the rear plate. In addition, I have the Escort Passport 9500ci with two ZR-4 heads in the front and the rear head horizontally mounted above the rear plate. The two LI heads in the front are in the center air intake area on my 09 C2S, and the two ZR-4 heads are in the outside air intakes on either side. The 9500ci's radar head is behind the front bumper cover.

jfr,
Can you upload some pictures?
Also, have you tested your setup? One problem some have experienced with multiple head setups are interference and crosstalk that actually reduces the performance significantly. If you have not tested I would highly recommend doing so. I will be testing my setup tomorrow afternoon and will report the results.

I just don't get it. I have received 3 speeding tickets in my lifetime, owning some pretty fast rides. I am sure all of which were far cheaper than what you paid for that setup. You did a very nice clean job, and it was probably very satisfying to complete. However, radar detectors & laser jammers are like extended warranties. When factored over time, they have little value.

Not to mention if you insurance rates go up what the final cost is on that aspect. You do have a point however that the cost benefit analysis would lean to probably not getting the jammers, but, If you have a good system properly installed and it saves you a few tickets, why not?
Thus far here in the DFW area the last bunch of years I have seen and identified around a 20 laser traps. 15 or so I saw ahead of time prior to being in range and simply slowed down. 1 was a rear quarter shot from an over pass on George Bush and I happened to not be speeding on that one. (Becoming a standard laser employment tactic.) And the other 4 were potentially problematic however they were adequately jammed while I slowed to the PSL. (Blinder M35 J11's on my M3)There have been other encounters but I am not sure if they were authentic or laser rangefinders on some of the never vehicles.
So for me, I am glad to have the warning as well as jamming capability.
