Accident in Cayenne
Last night, I was driving my wife's Cayenne home from work. Guy in a four month old Mustang GT ran a red light and clipped the back bumper on the passenger side. He hit with a pretty good amount of force and at full speed (about 40 mph).
The strike pushed the Cayenne about 30 feet and turned it 180 degrees, so I was facing in the opposite direction of travel. The passenger side's rear bumper was damaged, the rear wheel was badly scratched and the rear door has some small scrapes. The passener and rear passenger side curtain airbags deployed. That's all of the visual damage to the vehicle. Boy, I'm glad I wasn't driving the 997,
The other guy's mustang was totaled. I mean, the front end was completely smashed and pushed in. Fortunately, no one was injured. I have to say, I'm incredibly impressed with the durability and safety of Porsche vehicles, which is the point of this thread.
The one annoyance is that although the Cayenne appeared drivable, the air bags deployment triggered a relay (like blowing a fuse) that shut down the vehicle and would not let it re-start. So, it had to be towed. But things could have been much worse.

Sorry to hear that and I am glad no one was hurt.
If you have been driving the 997, you would have been at least 1 mile further down the road and would have avoided the accident completely.

Since he hit you at 40MPH, he surely had plenty of time to see the red light and stop. I hope he gets what he deserves. Too many irresponsible drivers out there.

Damn. Bad news that the Cayenne was damaged; Good news that no one was hurt.
Here's hoping that the Cayenne's great structure kept all the damage to yours cosmetic (bad as that is, I know).
Guy in the other car was lucky he was unhurt.
