Hi to everyone at Rennlist. Just took delivery of my first Porsche sports car (had a Cayenne S for 4 years) last friday April 17
. A childhood dream come true. I have order my C2S 6sp with the ''new'' PSE. I wanted great sound and like the possibility to switch from quiet to loud (for wife, daughter and neighbours
).
I find it sounds great, both at idle and with acceleration, not that loud from inside the car. It sounds much better than the regular exhaust. I can't compare with anything else since I never heard any 997 with other exhausts (aftermarket). I didn't hear any variation of sound with speed like on the 997.1. To me, it seemed to stay loud even at street speed.
When looking underneath the car, the setup look like 997.1 PSE pictures I saw before.
Few pictures (sorry, I don't have video or sound clip yet):

For me, the pipes looked ok but I wanted them to fit better with the red/black theme. By just removing a srew, you can remove the silver part of the tips and have very nice flat black tips:

The loud setting is now controled with a dedicated switch on center console (third from the left), you can now activate PSE without the sport button of Sport chrono:

Thanks B_Rob,
Congratulations on your new C2S!
Your PSE looks better (IMHO) without the silver "forskin". Maybe an aftermarket vendor can make a proper silver cover that covers the entire pipe. Hope there's no uber engineering reason why that shouldn't be done.
Please post some sounds and vids when you can. I would love to hear that beast.

B_Rob,
Congrats! Sweet looking car. It's about time Porsche separated the contriol/activation of the Sport Chrono and the PSE on cars fitted with both options.

Congrats to your new 997.2, and thanks for sharing the new PSE information.
And thank god that 'silly-looking' cosmetic PSE silver tip can be removed by just a screw. The matt black PSE exhaust tips actually look pretty cool.
Enjoy your new ride!
With best regards,

Thank you also for your post. This is some great new information to have. Very happy to hear that PSE growl is there even at low rpms this time and that there is a dedicated PSE button. Excellent also to find out that the ridiculous silver foreskin can be removed - seems like it would be pretty easy to get chrome tips (from Fabspeed perhaps?) that would go over and cover the black pipes. If anyone learns of chrome tips that are compatible with the new PSE, please let us know!

Good choice on color...ha ha I hve the same!
Could you post a picture from under the car so we can see how the PSE is routed? Is there a center muffler like on the stock 997.2 system?
Since the silver part of the muffler is removable I can see the aftermarket going crazy with this. This is a good thing!

It appears that PSE pipes are now of equal diameter. Is that correct?
997.1 PSE had the inner exhaust pipes slightly smaller in diameter than the outer pipes, which was always a visual "tell" on PSE versus non-PSE equipped cars.

I have not seen the 997.2 PSE side mufflers but it could be that Porsche went back to a single outlet pipe (like on the 996) on the new PSE and the dual exhaust tips could be only for appearance.

Fabspeed Motorsports will have polished T304 stainless steel tips available shortly...here's a teaser pic with the black chrome installed on our Carrera S.

Joey @ Fabspeed
I believe the new PSE is TWO seperate pipes for each side not one into two as your tips are built.
The PSE has a seperate pipe coming out of the side muffler from a different location than the regular outlet.
Will it be possible for you to build a set up to replace the OEM dual part to fit over the twin pipes?

Skyking, you and I both want the same thing on the new PSE. Did your car arrive yet? Mine's "waiting at the port". I'm hoping someone comes up with an aftermarket for the "foreskin" tips by the time mine arrives.
