Just timed it, I have to hold it 1 second to open. It takes 2.4 seconds till you see evidence that the top is opening (windows opening) but I timed it several times and if you hold down the button for as little as 1 second and the top will open all the way. I wonder what that would have to come down to qualify for "one touch"

It is times like this I wish I had the Chrono package

I've been enjoying the Smart top for the reasons mentioned for the past couple of years. I picked up the Remote top last fall from a fellow Rennlister and it's been sitting in a drawer ever since. You guys have just motivated me to do the install this morning! I hope you're all having better cab weather than we are here in DC.

I might have brought the bad weather with me to the East Coast. It was raining when I left N. Cal on Friday and it starts to rain when I arrived Boston and when I drove to DC today...

What is the cost for the SmartTop, and what is the install like? Is is DYI or pro only?

As I recall, it's around $300 and takes all of 15 minutes to install. As a bonus, you can clean the inside of your rear window while you're in the neighborhood.

$499, simple install. You can go to the smartTOP manufacture website and download the install instruction manual.

Another wonderful feature is that it increases the mph at which your car will allow you to raise or lower the top. I don't recall the exact before and after speeds, but it increased by about 10mph. Where I live the weather and the temperature change dramatically and I often find myself wanting to raise or lower the top in the middle of a drive. Before I would have to slow way down to do so. Now its pretty much available anytime except for on the highway.

Do the installation yourself and learn a little more about your car. Even non-mechanics can do it rather easily.

Allow me to join the smartTop chorus line. Yesterday, thanks to Gaspasser (Tim M), mine was installed. It changes so much for the better-not just "hands-free" opening and closing the top, but dealing with those balky windows, automatic door locking and unlocking (useful in certain cities especially), and avoiding accidental trunk openings. Heartily recommend this device.
