Can you point to a supplier of race deck floor? TIA

www.racedeck.com

You can use their floor designer to pick the colors and patterns etc etc and then they will send you a quote. They have not been pushy at all as well.

I did my garage 10+ years ago with ordinary 12x12 commercial vinyl tiles (flat surface), in a two-tone pattern. Not self stick but using a strong goopy glue made for that purpose. Inexpensive, looks great, and has held up very well over the years.

Here's a pic (best I have on my computer); (kids helping me put new shocks on my 356).

What is the purpose of these type of garage floors? Is it entirely cosmetic or is there some real functional advantage like easier cleanup?

That's what I used and I did use muratic acid per suggestion by a member here and mine has held up very well for 2 years now. The only problem I have is the hot spots from the tires. I have tried everything to clean it but I guess the epoxy is burned in or something. So as long as the car is in the garage, the spots are covered but when empty, it's an eyesore. Meanwhile, my neighbors garage was professionally done and looks brand new still, but he did pay around $3k i think. I paid less than $200 for 3 epoxy kits. Yeah, you get what you pay for so I can't complain too much.

Dave,--what you have in mind is the right thing to do in your area. None of the paints will stay in place over time because of the harsh environment,--particularly for where you live. As mentioned earlier, I have spent a lot of time in aircraft hangers and have found that even the best stuff will flake in time. What many of the epoxy companies fail to mention is how often you have to have them come back to treat the surface to maintain it. It's certainly not a paint it and forget system. In your neck of the woods you will be leaving some nasty stuff on the floor during the Oct-May season and tiles will be your best bet as long as some sort of drainage system can be built in. It will never be zero maintenance.

I've been kicking around the idea of doing my garage floor. I'm probably just going to bite the bullett and have Premier do mine. The good commercial companies do a prep that far exceeds what you can do on your own. My local vendor has a "micro-grinding machine that fiinishes the surface before they etch it. They also have the ability to wrap the surface partway up the sidewalls which, along with the lack of gaps in the floor itself, makes for much easier clean up (I live in an area where my other cars will be tracking in road grime all winter long).

Forget that consumer crap unless you want to make floor repair a regular part of your routine!
I have used Sherwin Williams Armorseal 1000 HS on 2 garages and it is INDESTRUCTIBLE! It is a marine/industrial grade product that you can drive a bulldozer on and it will withstand the punishment, let alone corrosive materials etc.

The Race Deck factory is in Salt Lake City and they sell direct from there. Their website is racedeck.com.

Premier garage is amazing. I'm going on 3 years and not a single flaw.
Another thing to keep in mind with epoxy's is how long your car will be out of the garage for curing time. Plan on 7-10 days.

I don't know a lot about the racedeck type floor tiles, but they seem like they would be a total pita to clean after a winter. My premier garage cleans out in 20 minutes with a pressure washer and looks brand new again.

Toomey--
I believe that is the cleanest garage I've ever seen! Where are the bikes, shop vac, folding chairs/tables, sports equipment, cases of bottled water, brooms, and other "collectibles" most of us have? Does your garage say alot about your personality and proclivities? Career choice?

Dave,

What did you end up doing? Only worry i have on race decks is fluid getting in between seams and sitting under those puzzle like pieces for looooong time until you have to pull them up.

If the garage is new, there is no better or easier time to put down a two part epoxy. Make sure it's 2 parts. Very important, as it doesn't dry (shrink), it hardens.
