How to find out a service history on a car.
Is the repair database shared? Can anyone look it up for me?! I've located a good (I think) car and want to check it out.
I'm assuming that if I found where the owner was from and called the local dealerships, they wouldn't just tell me.

I think there are some guys around here who will do this for you if provide them with the VIN.
When I had the PPI done on mine I just asked the dealer for the service history and they included it, no problem.

I was told by my local dealer that the service DBs aren't shared across the dealer network. In other words, the service dept of a Houston dealer cannot access the service history of a car that was previously serviced at a Florida dealer. You or the Houston service dept would have to contact the Florida service dept to request it. I don't know why that is in this day and age, but it was confirmed by the PCNA rep I spoke to as well.
Maybe 'Stoppie has a secret way to hack into the nationwide service DBs himself?

I attempted to get the information on a CPO car I recently bought. To get the full information, you have to go to the dealership that did the work. If you go to another dealership, the info you can obtain is extremely limited.
