Default What is optimal tire pressure for best wear characteristics

Okay, sorry for the stupid question, I did search and read lots of posts but couldn't find a specific answer.

I just picked up a new 997.2 C2S with Michelin PS2 tires. Currently my driving consist of motor break in on straight and flat smooth roads. For those who have similar driving conditions; what pressures are your running to get the most miles out of your tires?

Oh, and no, I didn't buy the car for great tire wear but I'd like to make the best of 'em so they are in good shape when I can get it on some curves.

Thanks,

Rodney

Whatever the manufacturer says for light load in the Owner's manual or the door jamb plate.

OK, I'm running 37/44 as posted in the door jamb; didn't know if that was the best wear number.

Thanks,

Rodney

Why don't the manual and door jamb plate provide the same information? Which one is considered best? (I believe most people here say the manual should be followed, not the door jamb plates).

They should be the same. they offer low load and heavy load. Low load is 1-2 people - use that.

37/44 sounds high for a 997.2 S. The 997.1 S was 33/39.

I heard that the new cars were actually running w/ lower pressures than the 997.1.

These are of course cold settings - use an accurate gauge.

Hmmm, maybe I'm remembering wrong. I'll look tomorrow and post back.

Thanks for the comments.

Rodney, seriously now...have you read or looked in the owners manual yet? All the info you seek is right there at your finger tips.

37/44 is high....go look in the manual and get back to us.

He's right, the manual and door jam sticker are not consistent, at least for my 2007 S. What's up with that?

The door jam indicates a higher pressure - 37/44 - for light load. I use the manual's numbers - 33/39.

The door jam pressure of 37/44 sounds more like the heavy load numbers in the manual, if I recall correctly.

From Page 292 of the manual, for partially loaded (up to two persons without luggage), with 19" wheels: 34 front, 40 rear. For fully loaded (two persons with luggage), with 19" wheels: 37 front, 44 rear.

Edit: Sorry, greggt. We both posted at nearly the same time.
