Default street racing in Ft. Lauderdale

Big trouble for a 997 turbo driver in Florida. Save the racing for the track.

I hope the family of the victims own both the guys that killed their family members.
This is very sad news.

I wish more people would get it drilled in their head that it is so easy to hurt someone on the street and it is so easy to just sign up for a track day with 1 of the many organizations that host these events.

I cannot tell you how much this pissed me off. I grew up in Fort Lauderdale. From the looks of things, it seems to have happened near the corner of A1A and Las Olas. It can be a very populated area right near the beach. That area is a 30-35 MPH zone. We all drive way too fast in Lauderdale, but racing in that area is so stupid.

It's actually a 997 GT2. Very sad all around, and as ryangambrill noted, this happened in a tourist/nightclub/pedestrian area on the beach, one of the LAST places to be engaging in a test of speed.

The photo is not a GT2, that's a TT front lip. A GT2 doesn't have those foglights.

Either way, it was a tremendous demonstration of poor judgement on the part of the drivers.

Palm Beach Post...big write up about a "turbo charged Porsche " racing and killing 2 people. Big news here.

I wonder if the car was stolen, hard to believe the owner would leave the sceen, so easy to track him/her down (inless hiding because DUI)

Sad story

Yeah, smart enough to afford such a beast, but so dumb you race down a populated street, run over two people, and then flee the scene.

My parent have a winter place right around the corner from there - ridiculous cars are always driving by slowly - "racing" there is ludicrous.

It is unfortunate that it will tarnish the porsche owner reputation, as people already think most of us drive too fast in our cars. However, this is completely reckless and my heart breaks for the family of the victims. I hope they catch that driver quickly and prosecute for Murder...that's what it was.

Sad! Drive with your head, be responsible and go to the track. These cars have too much HP to play in the streets.

What a moron. There are what, 100 GT2s in the US? I hope they find this guy and quickly - shouldn't be too hard...
