Default PCCB Gen -2: Data needed

Hi, guys

You might have seen elsewhere that I'm collecting data for a Total 911 feature on PCCB.

As part of that, I'd like to know if anyone has had problems with Gen-2 (that's 2005 997 onwards) discs.

Got lots of info about Gen 1, so no need to post experience of that, thanks.

And please try to fight the urge just to tell me how great they are - I already have lots of 'they're problem-free' data - I just need to see what I can find to the contrary for now.

Thanks.

Let me be the first to say - "they're great" - Tony the Tiger style.

O.K. seriously though... 35.5K miles - a few autocrosses, a track day and plenty of pad left - no visible wear on the rotors.

Only dislike - slightly squeaky low speed stops (and the OEM fluid isn't track worthy)

C'mon - someone's got to have a really, really high mileage set don't they?

Oh, thanks, Lig, too.

Edit: Feel free to post if you can beat 65k miles - highest I've seen yet.

Have nearly 34,000 on my second gen PCCBs and feel they are one of the better options I chose for the car. No rotor wear, and also plenty of pad left. No squeaks except one time briefly and then back to normal, no noise. The fact that they produce little to no dust is one of the great benefits, but the other, the significantly lower unsprung weight, has transformed the handling of the car for the positive. I do feel the difference when driving it compared to other 997s.

Dan, surely those aren't your original pads?!

2006 Carrera S w/12k miles, stock PCCBs. 430 rwhp w/EVOMS Supercharger. I just put new Michelin PS2 rears on (using the guides and being very careful!) and the rotors are perfect. I really like the weight savings that the PCCBs offer. With Dymag 19s, Poggipolini titanium bolts, and the PCCBs, this is a very nimble 997.

For street use the PCCB's seem to wear very well. However at the track I have seen a few problems and they do not seem to last....especially the rotors which are $10,000 to replace...just the freakin' rotors. I would have ordered PCCB's on my 09 Carrera S but the issues with them I see at the track scared me away...I could not afford $10k of rotors for every 6 DE events.

I would have loved the Yellow against my Blue Club Coupe - but I gotta admit - my standard Turbo brakes in all their RED Glory have been fantastic - even on the few track days but remember - tracking the car was only 15 - 20 minutes with hour brakes in-between - not close to the abuse the Ceramic Yellow's are made for.

He's looking for first hand experience,--not what some other owner has experienced or expressed.

There are plenty of rumors flying about the endurance of these rotors. What he needs is direct experience,--who has been forced to replace their second Gen. PCCB rotors?

Yellow seems to go well with blue cars...

I have PCCB's on my '05 C2S. The only trouble I've had was having to wash my wheels TWICE during the last driving season here in Michigan (8000 miles)

As you are looking for some kind of "negative" comments, this is the best I can do. I have a 2006 C4S Cabriolet with 26,000 miles and original pads. The only disconcerting thing I have found is that when driving in heavy rain for a prolonged period (read 60 minutes or more without brake use), the "grab" is not there on initial use, but does quickly reappear. The roters need to be dry to function optimally. Same issue occurs if I drive off immediatly after washing the car and wheels. Awarenes of this characteristic precludes any problems by just pumping the brakes before really applying them, if they are wet.

Thanks.

I guess right now, yes I'm looking for some negative data, but only to act as a counterpoint to the positive data I've already collected.

Elsewhere (this doesn't tend to happen on Rennlist, where I like to think people behave rather more maturely), everyone seems to think that either I'm out to do a hatchet job on PCCB - so the people who like them want to kill me, or they assume I'm sucking up to Porsche, or am biased because I have the brakes myself and so will 'obviously' not write anything bad about them, so the people who dislike them want to kill me.

What I'm writing is the result of having collected a whole lot of first hand evidence from many places and many people - a fair and honest evaluation of all the reports, good and bad.
