Default 997.1 997.2 front bumper swap interchangeable

Are the 997.1 and 997.2 front bumpers interchangeable? Which front do YOU like best?

If it could be done it would be expensive...you would need a different wire harness for the LED lights. I am not even sure the mounting points are the same.

Why would anyone want to do this anyway is beyond me. I have a 09 and like th efront but I would never be a pouser and make my older and great looking 2005-08 look like a 09...make ZERO sence to me.

Now if some aftermarket company came out with a LED retro fit into the bigger 2005-08 running light housing I would go for that...but to make the old car look like the new car is beyond me.

I thought I liked the '05-'08 front better until I saw the '09 in person. Trying to fit the 997.2 parts on a 997.1 seems like a waste of energy to me, though.

More than anything, I was curious how much, if any, the 997.2 body sheet metal had been changed. Both fronts have their virtues. Each to his own.

Like them both - it wouldn't surprise me if the wiring was the same and the ballast for the LEDS (diode bridge, whatever there using) for the lamps correct/step updown the voltage...

Has anyone actually done this? Someday I'll be changing my 997.1 bumper cover because:
--My 997.1 bumper cover is worn on the bottom from driveways
--997.1 is tough to clean out the leaves
--indiffernt about the LED lights but I like the 997.2 more cohesive look

Wondering what it would take to cut over to the 997.2 bumper cover. Usually when a car is given a facelift like this, the engineers/designers are working within self-stipulated constraints that make the changes pretty much bolt-on so the can cut over to the new design on the assembly line, manage repair parts etc. That rationale is making me think that it might not be as difficult as it seems. The rads are the same, right? so it's just plastic, lighting and wiring? Is it just the cover and underlying plastic rad ducting or are there more structural changes?

I'm sure there must be people out there that have crashed up the front of the 997.1... at that point it's probably neutral costs between 997.1 and 997.2 front ends. I'm interested to know if anyone has dealt with that situation.

10 years from now I'm sure this will be common. As people begin to restore these cars they'll pick the items they like best (or are the most available) from the range of years (unless they're going full concourse restoration). My 1973 BMW moto had front shocks and disc brakes from a 76, cylinders from a 74, handlebars from a '69 etc.

Rather than dealing with all the wiring and all the BS I'd put an Aerokit bumper on the car.

I find the aerokit bumper to be the least attractive of the three by far.

I'm not a big fan of the areo kit and I believe it further reduces the ground clearance which is a total dealbreaker for me.

I agree, not worth the money and time to get it done. Rotec and Dectane are working on a solution and it'll be much cheaper too. I do like the LED's up front, make it looks more modern. But spending thousands to do it is beyond me.

I like the 997.1 Aerokit bumper THE BEST! If someone wanted to upgrade, that's the cheapest and best option. It also will give you the MOST aggressive look.

As far as I know, none of the sheet metal changed. It was only the bumper covers. I have heard of people changing them over without problem. Front and rear covers change out.

Hi,
I have changed my gen1 to a gen2 carrera...I have done the rear and it was no big issues. Some work with changing the pdc clips on the inside, because the new bumper has got different clips to the pdc.
You need a new "plate" to mount the new bumper.easy to change.
Led lights, plastic around the tail pipes.
Adapters to the led lights.Paint, then just mount the **** and you got a brand new Porsch
I have almost everything to the front.Bought a wiering from a guy who sold the adapters. So you can get the front led to work.
Change it you to.... the gen 1 looks pretty old
