Reliability? there have been examples of nasty failures with fluid dripping from the center mirror.
I had them on my last 2 997S cars and I did not have any issues with them. I do not have them on my current 09 C2S and I do not really miss them.

It isn't unique to the 09 cars. The 997.1 exterior mirrors are dimmed too.

I agree that dimming the side mirrors is a good thing. The center mirror not so sure, as the flip wedge of the conventional mirror works just fine without any other issues.
