Does anyone know if a dealer can certify a car that is being bought second hand?
I'm thinking of buying a car and going to the dealer and asking them to do whatever it needs to certify it.
I have an opportunity to buy a May 2005 cab with 37,000 miles, full leather tan interior, 19" s wheels, PASM suspension, BOSE and a K40 laser detector for $48,500.
Is this a good deal?

I'm pretty sure this has been discussed before, try doing a search.
But if my memory serves me correct, it seemed highly unlikely for a dealer to do it. About the only shot was if you knew someone at the dealership pretty well and then I think they would need to buy the car, certify it and then sell it to you. And this whole process doesn't come cheap.

I would say if CPO is that important to you (it was to me), just look at CPO cars. There are plenty to choose from.
Give milage on the car you looking at it's seems in the ballpark. But you can always negotiate for a better deal.

Your chances of buying the car and then getting it certified by Porsche are about as good as your chances of winning the lottery.
If you are able to get a CPO warranty that way, I would strongly recommend you play the lottery that same day!

There have been about a dozen threads like this at various forums here at RL - try a search. In general, you are talking about a 3-way deal. You work your numbers with the seller, work it out with the Porsche dealer (he's going to want something - usually it's $2k for CPO and they might want $1k for the effort), and technically, other guy sells car to dealer, you buy from dealer, you get CPO car with extended warranty.

He was implying that doing what I was asking was akin to buying a ring and getting the box (very well known and a nice green color) at the Tiffany's store...

you are talking about an actual Porsche.
To echo a previous post, extended warranty (from a reputable company!) will get you covered well. cost no more and likely a lot less than, going to Porsche for CPO. Your local dealer might even point you to a company they are affiliated with or at least refer their Customers to.

HOWEVER, what's wrong with proposing to a manufacturer to increase the protection time in exchange for a payment? To the best of my knowledge, that's how money is made in MANY industries - water pipe protection, boilers, jet engines, even TVs and phones!
I'm done with this thread and want to thank those who contributed to answering my question. I did do a search and all info was there. Next time I'll start with the search.
Thanks again
