When the original motor was replaced, I questioned the fact that the serial numbers on the replacement motor would no longer match with the car. I was told that when a motor is replaced under warranty that the paperwork with Porsche was updated to show that the replacement motor was the correct (matching) motor for that vehicle. I assume that they meant a database, as their appears to be nothing in my paperwork that desiginates a serial motor for the motor, but I will again question this.
Not really sure about being able to win a diminished value argument. I guess I can see what the dealer would give on trade and compare that to KBB, NADA values, and go from there.

I would track it. I would also suspect the computer of
something. Did you ask the dealer to replace the computer also?

How would the computer cause the accumulation of water in a cylinder? Ignorant minds like mine would like to know.

I know for sure that both can and have happened. I have a friend with a 993 that went through 3 engines in less than 10K miles. Let's just say his story is where my advise stems from. Prepare for a fight, but it is winnable.

You just have to talk their language = lawsuite and media prevention.

To go one step further you may want to check the lemon law in your state. At this point your car may qualify. If your serious about dumping the car the dealer always has the option of doing a dealer buy back. They may opt for this to keep you as a customer.

You really have to decide what you want out of this deal. Then ask for double and negotiate to get what you want.

Good luck.

Naive questions here... How can water accumlate inside a cyclinder? Bad/Cheap Gas? Climate temp difference? It's a combustion chamber....Right?

Head gasket fails, cracked cylinder, check out the 996 forums! Water in the cylinder means that coolant has somehow gotten into the engine. Usually bad. Very bad.

What were the circumstances? Engine failure threads on the 993 board are very difficult to find...

Ok, that I'll buy. I did not assume that water=coolant, but if one goes with that assumption... yes, that makes sense.

Now to have another engine fail in the same/similar way? Something fishy is going on... either a design/manufacturing/rebuild flaw, or an installation flaw.

Engine failure in a 993 is very rare unless it's not stock.
