My recollection of the Explorer/Firestone debacle is that Ford advised owners to use a lower pressure than Firestone recommended because of ride considerations. In any event. I would hazard a guess that the enthusiats who frequent a board such as Rennlist check their tire pressures religiously without being told and perhaps don't need a TPMS. However, the vast majority of drivers don't check their pressures regularly and need to be reminded.

I had to order TPMS for my 06 Carrera. It has proven to be very effective in alerting me in advance of tire issues. While the displayed PSI differs from the 'actual' PSI the delta is consistent and manageable. I don't have a problem with it dropping below a certain PSI and artificially triggering some sort of warning,--perhaps their system needs to be set up better. I routinely run mine so that the displayed PSI is 33 - 39 and actuals are 37 - 43. This has given me very good tire wear, high performance, and reasonable ride quality. The TPMS is essential in a car with 30 series tires and without hollow wheels. There is little air inside those tires so early warnings are critical to avoid serious damage.

I have one of those. Took it out of the box and untangled the hoses, put it back and up on a shelf.

I suppose it would be useful if a friendly truck driver (over 100 psi in big tires)
came by to give you a tire fill-up to get you to a close-by tire store.

I love how the manufacturer indicates: "The chucks on the Extreme are proprietary, unique and patent pending."

Ok, we get the point already, but also, they cannot be proprietary AND patent pending, because if you have filed for a patent, then everyone knows what the design is, and hence its not treated as 'proprietary' anymore.
