Michelin only.

 

Replacing original PS2's this week....31 months, 21K miles, four DE's. Still haven't hit the wear bars on inside ribs.

Will go PS2 route again. $1,000 for two rears, mounted and balanced.

 

I have the Brigstone RE 050A as original equipment on my 07 911 and have about 10K miles on them and they look to be about half worn.

 

Continental N-specs may be worth cross-shopping against the Bridgestones. They may cost even less, and IIRC their treadwear rating is quite a bit higher at 280. The Continental seems to be the rarest OEM tire. I suspect it would generate the lowest performance figures, but unless you've found yourself breaking traction frequently with your existing set of tires, chances are you'd be happy with the performance the Contis offer.

 

I don't know about the Continental N-spec tires but the Contisport Contact 2 tires I put on my MINI Cooper S were great and a huge improvement over the OEM tires (run-flat Dunlops).

When the P Zero's on my 997S wear out I plan to try a set of Bridgestone RE050A's.

 

I hope those Contis are better than what came on my father's 996. Those things sounded like mud bogger tires on the interstate. They were almost as bad as the old PZeros that came on 993s.

Is the PS2 the quietest high performance tire for these cars still?

 

On a rear wheel drive vehicle, I hated my PZero's, loved Michelin PS2's and now on the 911TT, am very impressed by the Bridgestone OEM tires so far. Tons of grip, but I don't know how much that is the tire, and how much is the AWD and suspension.

 

Keep in mind that there are different versions of the RE050, the regular RE050A and the RE050A pole positions. The Pole Positions are superior over the regular version and comparable to the PS2s IMO.

 

...but RE050A Pole Postions do not come in the sizes a 997S needs.

 

Went through my first set in 1k miles; however, I did track it twice on an airport track. My second P-zero's are half way down and the car is at 7k miles with no tack events. I did purchase a second set of wheels for tracking events, much more fun since the tire is a softer compound. I do admit, I love taking turns and thus the extra wear.

 

I agree with all once you get used to the car, you are going to want best performance, so you'll get an aggressive alignment, start taking turns harder, etc However, if the only price is that you get 8K out of rears instead of 15K, that's a small price to pay Buying this car and then trying to "maximize" tire wear is against the point of having a porsche in my opinion....
