Actually it is debated ad nauseam. Controversial to some eyes? I guess. Disastrous for Porsche? Ummm no.

Agree the 996 was not the best looking porsche to date. But no way was it a "disaster".

if it wasnt disastrous for porsche, then why doesnt the 997 feature front lights other than the circular ones they currently have? i thought it was evolution with the 911? not a step back to the 993 model

I don't know ... some of them look pretty good.

I wouldn't mind a 275 GTB/4 ... a 365 GTS/4 (Daytona) or a 288 GTO. I would never give up a Porsche for a Ferrari though.

I had a 06 and 07 Tip Carrera S....( I do not have a left leg to push a clutch with) so I had no choice. I tracked the heck out of both cars very sucessfully.

However I now have a 09 with PDK...it is NOT called Tiptronic anylonger and you absolutly can not compare the 2 transmissions. PDK is light years ahead of the old Tip and even much better than the Ferrari F1.

To paraphrase a famous ex-senator the guys at Porsche "...don't even take a dump without a plan" Every decision has been well researched and vetted at the very highest levels. If they want PDK it is because a significant group of their customers want it as well. They are not getting ready to take over VW for nothing. They will always provide for their enthusiast base but anything that benefits the long term interest of Porsche is fine with me. You can't live in the past.

You can still do that with PDK, in fact you can do it better. In lazy D, in M and in Sport or Sport Plus... take your pick. And I bet the effect will be superior to a manual shift no matter how good a manual shifter you are.

This discussion - as many already stated - makes no sense. If you like a manual transmission, get one - it is available at no extra cost.

You should be thankful. Without the Boxster, 996, and Cayenne, do you think you'd even have a 997 to drive?
