morning gents Mainly a DD, but hit the track 4-5 times/year Have a stock OEM Porsche wheel, no multi function and no PDK I find the wheel to be a bit thin for my taste and would like something thicker like I had on my e46 M3 Any recommendations for good sites to check out?, or people to speak with? Also, any ideas whether possible to get something decent in the $500-$750 range?
That price range is below most of what I have seen, but there is a place (I think they are in Florida) called Alan Gun Leather and they do replacement wheels for that sort of price range. Their website does not show the 997 products but I remember seeing them on eBay. Their eBay shop-site showed a copy of the much thicker Porsche wheel with thumb-grips that re-uses your factory airbag.
I used them years ago to re-wrap a wheel with new leather (no change in thickness) and they did a good job. YMMV. www.aglausa.com
Most other nice wheels seem to be in the $1500 or $2000 range. Techart makes some nice ones in that price range. I've been looking at thicker wheels too, but it has not made it to the top of my list yet.
Do a search for Dallas Custom Wheel or something like that on the 993 site. Some have had their existing wheels recovered with Alcantara and added something to thicken up the wheel a bit. You'll find pictures here somewhere and the result looks really good.
I bought a XPA option leather sport wheel from Sunset Porsche for around $1300. I love it. It is only about a 1/4" larger in the diameter of the rim, but feels so much richer.
