Default Carbon fiber options, Do they get scratched?

I am considering a few carbon fiber interior options for a new 997.2. I have heard that because of the plastic or acrylic coating over the fiber, these carbon fiber decorations can easily scratch and cannot be readily repaired. Any truth to this? Are carbon fiber options in vulnerable areas such as the rear console or the door sill a good choice?

They can scratch just like anything else. However I have seen some carbon Porsche interior accessories on a 2002 that still look awesome to this day. It's all about how you take care of things.

I have carbon steering, center console lid, among a few other items and they hold up pretty well.
Like the previous person stated...as long its not abused your okay. Looks elegant and cool.

If they do scratch it usually isn't that noticable. However c/f bits have been known to crack. I know first hand, my steering wheel has two large cracks on the upper portion. I would love to get it fixed but I don't think it would be worth the cost.

There is considerable complaining going on in the Carrera GT forum about the yellowing of these plastic parts over time (I mean, "carbon fibre.")

My '03 996 had carbon fiber interior. Three pieces curled and peeled away from the dash about a year into the car's life.

Replaced under warranty but took six months for the replacement pieces to come in.

The outside wing due to heat and UV rays is what they are complaining about.

That is the first I have heard of the yellowing discussed on the GT forum. The biggest concern I would have is using carbon fiber in the door sill which is a high wear area. I am not sure that scratches can be readily buffed out of this plastic material.

points - nice interior.

i had carbon in the c4s and have put it in the Cayenne and the Rs 60 - i have never had an issue with the material but like all things in your porsche - they must be looked after with care.

i love the look of CF - go check out Maccarbon's web site for some amazing pieces
