Am I crazy, bored, both?

I thought when I bought the 997 that would be the ticket out of my recurring wants/desires for any other porsche. But, now that I've (limitedly) tracked the 997, I do not feel a need to drive it on the street so much, and I'm jonesing for another air-cooled to scratch that itch.

I thought I was over those darn things!

Not considering sellin' my '06 (best of breed to date, imvho) but the air-cooled's scratched a different itch, and now I'm wantin' to buy one to sit beside the '06...

Any one else here feel the need for both, or am I the only one so afflicted?

 

YES and that is why even though I really don't auto-X or track it that much the '83 SC is a keeper and fortunately my wife agrees. It has an inside place of honor and is driven regularly. There are some water cooled stablemates but the SC is pure FUN. In fact I think it needs a run this afternoon.

 

I'm jealous! I went out and bought an '88 328, and I don't even like the way the stupid thing looks. It's like it's made of glass, like it's some kind of jewelry. Never felt that way in any porsche I've ever owned.

You don't "drive" an old Porsche...you WEAR one. And you NEVER lose that desire.

I'm gonna buy one, I know it, I just know it, you know when your gonna do somethin'.... ...You just know.

I want an SC or Carrara. Doesn't matter...I'll have to sell this "gold chain" to make room...once a Porche man, always a porsche man.

Welcome to the club! I have an '06 C2S Cab, and a '79 911SC. I still enjoy driving the SC a lot, and when the weather is not too hot, I prefer it to the 997. It has a much more direct connection to the road, more direct responses, and it's a lot smaller, so it feels more agile. The only drawback is creature comforts; I live in Texas, so the lack of really effective AC system keeps me from driving it more during the summer.

 

I have regrets selling my 964 and 993... My 997 is an awesome replacement, but the 964 and 993 will always have a warm corner in my heart!

 

Agree completely. I love my 997, loved the 996 too. But I will add a Carrera when the time is right.

I'm just east of San Antonio and I took the air out. And did some other tweaks I do enjoy the car.

 

Funny, I'm want to buy a 997 C2S coupe to fix my track itch and selling the 993 is the last thing I would want to do.

 

At this time of the year as outside air temperatures are on the decline like our 401Ks, I'm that much MORE appreciative of my 997 over any air cooled 911. After logging some quarter million miles in air cooled Porsches and recalling their incredible INABILITY to maintain a decent cockpit temperature in the winter, I'm all through with that stuff.

 

This post is timely for me as I've been going through the same thought process relative to selling my 06' Carrera S coupe and getting an air cooled classic. I have a wonderful Euro 73 911S that I love to drive, to look at, to tinker with, to wash...well, you get it . As great as the 997 is, to me it's a daily driver type car. And it has A/c and heat that work, ceramic brakes, a stereo you can enjoy, plus, plus, plus. Whenever I step foot in my car, I look at the 73 S, not the 997...nuff said.

Seriously, I am going to list my Atlas Gray 997S any day now. It has all the right goodies on it. PM if curious.....

I think that the 328 is the wrong choice and you should look
at a 355. Ferrari 355's are runing from ($50.000-$70.000).
There were over 1,000 of them made. Replace the 355
seats with ones you like and you will have the ride of
your life.
My 997 S is the best car I have bought in my life. I could
be all Porsche but I still have the Ferrari dream!

I agree with the general theme here - each of these iconic cars is so distinctive. The Carrera is old school in every way - best car to run around town in. The C4S is now the DD and if any one of these were to go...it is the Cayenne S.

Here are a few snaps. 88 Targa - 14K miles and 2008 C4S. 93 348 Serie Speciale has seats that you definitely 'wear' - best weight loss program I've ever tried.

 

Yes, thought the GT3 would be enough, but I got the itch, too.

Went and test drove an '87 Carrera. I had such fond memories of the first test drive I took almost 10 years ago that I was excited to test drive another pristine one recently. I was so disappointed. The thrill the car had back then was completely gone. I was dumbfounded. Reality is perception.

Then we decided to hunt down a 993, the pinnacle of the air cooled breed. I was fortunate to locate one that had everything we could want as far as options and upgrades. Drove it and we both loved it, but it just doesn't replace the GT3, only compliments it.

Unfortunately, the finances have not worked out to add it to the stable, but I think I would if fortunes turned for us. We will see what the future brings. I have a picture of both cars on my desktop and it is a beautiful sight to see.
