962s are north of $400k.

When I went to test drive 996/997/996TT before I ordered my 997S. Sales guy said, "you're an enthusiast, check out what we have in back ..."

I've also seen a white 959 at Rennsport Reunion I and a red one at Rennsport Reunion III.

I think I saw a 962 for $500,000. Most of them with papers
go for 1M. I'll see if I can find one.

It lookls like the 962's have dried up. Guess You would have to settle
on a spyder.

I was told that these are about 500,000.
There is a race car site in England but I can not find it.

If you have to ask... The 959 was light years ahead of it's time in terms of it's peers, and set the stage for the modern 911 era. a true automotive Legend!

Yup, that got sold a long time ago and has since been put back up on the auction block a few times.

This was when it was listed back in July http://993c4s.com/uncategorized/ebay...or-sale-again/

It has since been listed at least twice more. Not sure if the new owner sold it or not yet.

The 959 will always be a serious and critically important car to the Porsche factory. It marked the commitment of the factory to the 911 design concept for their future product line at a time when the 911SC was going to be the final iteration of the 911 for Porsche. Once Peter Schultz turned Helmut Bott onto developing the 959 there was no going back. Many of today's Porsches carry the 959 genes, e.g., the Carrera 4S (997.2) AWD system, and the 997 adaptive suspension. Although Porsche lost money on every 959 it sold, it paid serious dividends for their future designs. Years from now people will be kicking themselves by writing, "I could have bought a fully restored 959 in 2008 for about $400,000 but I was afraid to jump."

Otis Chandler had one--believe it was red--and he'd take it out (or someone on his auto museum staff would take it out) to "exercise" it periodically. I saw it several times in and around the Ventura/SB area on the 101. To the best of my knowledge, his was factory spec in that it had not been federalized. Apparently there's some sort of compliance "exemption" for museums. Believe MJones has some more info on the Chandler car?

Cool thread. I've got my 959 parked in my garage about 20 yards away right now! For more info on my car, see the site I made about it: http://www.959registry.org

Bill Gates also had one that he was forced by the G to extensively modify to keep it in the country, or so the story goes.

Boy. 959 or CGT. which would you rather?

it would just depend for me...

Yes, I recall the Gates story as well. Apparently the car was stuck in the Port of SF for a very long time. I didn't know he finally was able to take delivery.
For me, the decision would be a simple one. I think the CGT is the finest car ever created. I also suspect it will have equivalently compelling historical value some time in the future. It may very well be that with all of the fuel mileage and CO2 restrictions being adopted worldwide, it will go down as the pinnacle of all things automotive.
