Default Daylight Running Lights

Just got my new 997.2.......what a great ride. I went to turn OFF the DRLs and the menu selection is not on the PCM. They are not required in MA, so I would like them off. Did the service prep guys just forget a setting?

thanks....

If you have the Sports Chrono you can do it yourself, otherwise you have to get the dealership to help

It's an option in the on board computer using the controller on the left side of the steering column.

I do have the Sport chron, but there are no menu selections anywhere do control them. I guess they were not programmed properly before delivery.

I like em too . Do they even exist on the 2008? I couldnt find a way to turn them on. Is this something that can be done at the dealer? I do not have SC.

To me Day Time Running lights are a no brainer period. More visibility is always a good thing.

I believe all 997s have DRLs (it's the law in Canada, after all). Those with the Sports Chrono can turn them ON/OFF via PCM.
Cars without Sports Chrono need the dealer to program them ON or OFF.
On model years 2005-2008 997s the DRLs are the headlights themselves.
Starting with the 2009 997.2s the DRLs are a line of white LEDs separate from (and under) the headlamps (ala Audi).
There are reams of data on the effectiveness/ineffectiveness of DRLs. It's actually pretty easy to find data which supports either side of the discussion.
Me? I'm not a fan. Looks goofy to be driving around on a clear, sunny day with your headlights on.

That's why I'll probably never buy a GM product, not even a Z06.

Another thing to consider when using DRLs, if it's at all important to anyone:

Living in close proximity to border - I like them.

My Touareg has them and I leave them on, anything to make me more visible to other drivers.

Easy to solve on a C6/Z06 - just turn them off. No big deal.

My buddy who owned a Z06 couldn't figure out how to turn off his DRLs. He tried pulling fuses to no avail. But I think the parking lights/turn signals double as the DRLs, if I'm not mistaken. So disabling the lamps would not be the solution.

On the 997.2 you use the lower stalk on the left side of the wheel and the display under the digital speedometer. Easy. Had to turn mine on and off several times when setting Home Link for my garage door and the gate on the subdivision.

The HID headlights are the DRLs? Isn't that asking for a pretty decent replacement bill when the arc tube or whatever it is "burns" out?

Some people can't operate anything these days. DRLs in a C6/Z06 are switched off by turning the lights ring selector off - it's THAT simple.
