There's an easy way to test that =)

Having put approx. 15k miles on each a C2S and a C4S I know that my only negative issue was with the weight of the AWD system... the actual grip added to the front was a major positive PLUS.

So, pull the parking brake on notch and get all the weight with none of the grip? Odd.

wonder how much the awd system weight? as you said, if it is not too much, then getting a C4 and you can drive it in 2WD and 4WD.

That's a point.

Wonder if that function is utilized anywhere within the maintenance manual. It must serve some purpose other than sheets and giggles... or has Porsche gone and started giving things away?

Hmmm.

The weight diff between an '09 C4S and a CS is 132lbs. To put it in perspective, look at it as 3 large heavy 45lb suitcases. Hauling those around is not trivial.

Word. I think most of that weight is driver's feet forward, too.

Occurred to me working out moments ago that it is a GREAT tool/device for dynoing the car more easily.

That is very cool and that makes sense, I think.

The only benefits I can see is for fuel consumption for city or highway driving when you don't need the grip. Less wear on the allwheel drive as well...maybe...

I bet lifting the handbrake probably just forces the electro c.diff open so it's not really 2wd but AWD with an open c.diff, also perhaps it wouldn't be a good idea to drive like that for extended periods of time unless the c.diff was designed to do so?

You could also look at it as a small adult riding shotgun. I don't have a problem with the extra weight of my C4, especially since I can't imagine wanting the front of the car to be any lighter than it is already.

Also the extra 150 llbs. is low to the ground & centered, I'm guessing there might be some minor suspension differences between the C2/4 which would help equal out the handling?

Going from a C2S to a C4S I felt the weight in the steering input. Just wasn't as light to the touch but the C4S never slid or broke loose. Makes it difficult to decide what is more important... super lightness in the steering and a willingness to break loose, or, light but not AS light in the steering and enough AWD grip to climb the wall.

I still think the parking brake shut off is to make it possible to dyno the AWD car on a RWD dyno... and other maintenance issues.
