Default Blue Aqua and Rear End (997.5)

Just an opportunity to show the new Aqua a little more (contrasted to my Blue Turquoise solid blue) as well as a direct comparison between the rear taillights of the 997.1 and 997.2 cars. I'm still not enamored with the new look. The LED aspects of it are fine,--but they should have kept the SHAPE the same. I think the original look for the 997 rear end was dead-on to begin with. Of course, that's typical when you OWN the 997.1, but I'm trying to be open.

And then just another fun shot thrown in for good measure,--with a rainbow no less! Our first significant rainfall of the "winter season" in Southern California.

Since I'm writing about the new lighting,--I might as well cover the front end as well. Here's an opportunity to see the evolution of the front ends from the 996 to 997.1 to 997.2; Porsche did a good job with the front end changes as I see it.

The front of 997.2 looks like Boxster S, again. It is funny that Porsche tried so hard to make the 997.1 looked different than the Boxster, and then...

Regards,

I agree - the first gen 997 looks better. Too bad the new one goes like Hell!!!!

A lot of car manufacturers are "losing it" with their remodels - look at the new FX, the new Z, the 3-series, etc. Even the Cayman/Boxster updates don't look too hot. Time to save some money on an unsold '08 or a CPO car...

The changes are growing on me. I prefer the new back end to the old, and I think that it will look even better with the all-red lenses when they become an option. As for the front, I think the first gen 997 is flawless, but I still like the new front as well.

I saw a 2009 C2S a few evenings ago and the the new rear lights are pretty stunning (literally) in person. They were so bright that they caused the same sort of negative imprint image that you get from looking at the sun. A bit over the top, but whatever.

Dan - Can't help but notice yours is the only one w/ a front tag - whats up w/ that? ;-)

Nice pics, esp the rainbow. Re the front/rear, I prefer the 997.1 but could easily "learn" to love, or live w/, the 997.2 [and its motor ;-)].

Some guy at Porsche is just in love with the three hole front end. He keeps bringing it back on the 911.

I can barely tell the difference stylistically. Like the new blue.

I agree. The new styling wouldn't tempt me to make a change as much as the improved HP and PCM features. But for now, they aren't enough either, since I rarely use the Nav or a phone or a MP3 player in the car. And I find the current 355 hp is plenty for my needs.

The new rear lights are nice but by adding the additional angle, I think it unnecessarily adds a bit more complexity to the otherwise more simple, elegant design of the 997.1. The front is more boxster-like.
I think the technical improvements of the 997.2 are more important.

Although California requires the placement of a front plate the vast majority of Porsche (and a select few others) owners like to tread a questionable line with the authorities. I would prefer NOT to tempt the authorities with an 'unscheduled stop.'

Dan I gotta say that your MkI 997 is just drop dead. I LOVE your cars color.

That having been said; I love the new rear LED's for the rear. even the lower line. I think it gives the rear of the 911 a lil more angular look- maybe more of an 'exotic' look?

Then again, I'm a porsche ****. I think they're all pretty damn hot.

Dan: ;-) Same here in NJ; You are right and I (foolishly) risk the 'unscheduled stop' in my weekender (wld feel different if a DD). Where I live, tho, there are a lot of PA drivers and PA does not require the front plate so hopefully that mitigates the chance stop somewhat! CA is too big for that play ;-)

Great pics. That being said. I like the look of the new tail. The lines of the lid flow with and into the lines of the tail lights. On the old model, the engine lid just stops and butts up to the tail lights. No continuity. Just one more opinion.

Dan, would Aqua Blue look good with NBL and/or NGL? Curious.
