The brakes are now the same on the 997 and the S which was always a major differentiating factor. Frankly, differences seem to be more marginal than ever, although you get nicer and bigger wheels and the PASM in the S (and of course 40 horses). Also, a number of magazines (think Excellence and GT) actually say the 3.6 motor is sweeter and sounds better than the 3.8, just lagging a little in mid-range torque.

I would venture to say that the S / non-S sales breakdown of FL models will actually move more towards non-S's than with the pre FL cars. Sure, 385 bhp is nice, but is 345 bhp really under-powered ?

Actually I don't think the "S" is any faster. Car and Driver tested both and they both ran 12.8 Sec. in the 1/4 mile! I know all the "S" owners are going to call BS, but I'm just stating the facts...look it up.

I would get a new base C2 then option the S wheels, PASM sport suspension and sport steering wheel and price is still $6,805 less than the S w/PASM sport. So the $6,805 is all for the motor. Make a decision based on that as everything else is equal. Unless you need red calipers.

And ultimately, most of today's Porsche owners can't possibly exploit 385PS anyway.

What i want is a mixed use car (street and trackday partner), i don't care so much for the wheels or any other extras but i do care about the brakes for example or the pasm. I'm sure the 3.6 engine with the 325hp will satisfy me cause i'm coming from a ''honest'' 2006 MX-5.
In my mind the plan is to create a clubsport carrera or carreraS with cage etc...

No, just the shallow ones do. I guess your definition of 'best' differs from mine.

If you want to attract chicks get a MINI. I got lots of comments from women in my old MINI Cooper S. Since I traded it for a 911 S I have gotten zero, although guys drool on it.
