Any recommendations for whether to get a clear bra for 997 c2 cab or not? Any particular brands?

 

What's most important is that you see the work in person. Ask around for referrals from local dealerships and that should point you in the right direction. Paint protection industry today is quite different from 5 yrs ago..today there's an abundance of installers on the market, many with limited installation expertise - especially in this economy. Be sure to look at their warranty (on both parts and labor). Good luck.

 

Exactly right - I highly recommend getting it done, esp. if it's a daily driver or there is a lot of road debris where you drive.

 

With the very soft (or is it really hard?) paint it's vulnerable to rock chips. In retrospect I would have also chosen not to install it. It works reasonable well for some colors, and not for others. I wouldn't want to see a seam all the time. As mentioned, some installers are true craftsmen, while others learned it from the sister of a buddy of theirs...

It's not inexpensive, either. Personally, I think it's just a bit too ****. This is a car, after all.

 

Saw a beautiful brand-new Carrara White Turbo coupe at breakfast this morning.
Upon inspection of the car my wife said, "Do you see two different shades of white?"
I did. The entire front of the car had clear bar installed - very professionally - and the front clip, including both front fenders looked creme-colored (almost toward yellow) compared to the doors (which were unprotected).
I would guess the color difference will only get worse over time.
Just a thought.

 

I am a happy customer of clear bra. Wth a professional installer (like Premier), it is almost unnoticeable in most colors.

In my opinion, even if there is a slight color difference it is still better than having rock chip damage on the paint. A clear bra can be removed/reapplied and the paint underneath is perfect, but rock chips are real damge on the paint.

Clear Bra is also very good on protecting the paint from minor parking lot accidents. Sometimes owners removed the clear bra and found the paint underneath was unharmed.

Meteor Grey, Full Hood Covered by Premier. Only had it 9 months now but would definitely recommend it - cannot see it with this color. With this said, I am planning on owning this vehicle for a long time and hope this will make it look alot better in 6-8 years than without.

 

On my well used atlas grey metallic car, the clear bra definitely prevents a multitude of chips which would expose the light primer....
why would you not get it?

 

I've always had clear paint protection film installed on all my cars.

It's imperitive that you see the company/installers work, type of film used, application, warranty, care etc.

As you can see my avatar, my C2S is black. With a highly skilled installer and the newer films, you cannot see it unless you get close.

Also, there are different ways to protect the front end, 1/4 hood, 1/2 hood to full hood. More coverage done correctly is harder to detect.

I have it on the hood, front bumper/Aerokit, side mirrors, door cups, headlights, doglegs, fender wheel wells.

I've see cars with full film on the finish and they look damn good with no orange peel look to it or dullness.

Great hing about the film is if it ever gets damaged or worn due to road debris, it's simple to remove as opposed to repainting the hood, bumper, fenders etc.

One advise I'll give is to have the finish completly polished to the best abilities without wax, just a straight polish prior to film application. The film installer will do an alcohol wipedown to remove any wax, oils etc prior to using a film "lube" to float the film. For polishes, I use Menzerna polishes depending on the condition of the finish. One that's in excellent shape can use P085RD or 106FF or 106FA. More marring means more polishing with say Menzerna SIP, or Powergloss. Just stay away from any "glaze" as they contain microfine clay and oils to mask/hide the marring on the finish by filling them. Once the installer uses the wipedown, they're back!

Just as there are many people calling themselves "Detailers", there are more shops trying to add paint protection film to their lineup. You want a shop that does only film work and to see as many examples of the work. Look closely for cutmarks from use of an XActo blade by the edges if it's a full wrap of film, this is a good indication that you should pass on that installer.

OK, now I HAVE to try the products. If it's from Premier and they put their effort into making these, I'm sure it's worth every penny. Sure beats Plexus I'll bet! The cleaner is one item long overdue. The sealant may have some advantage over other clear sealants, but only testing it will tell.

Premier should also look into the films that can be applied to change the entire color of the car or the full decals everyone sees on trucks, race cars etc.

Sure would be nice to chnage over to say GT3RS green for awhile, then change to another color w/o painting.

We sure did look into the colored vinyl. Problem with it is that it is pretty thin and shows the wear in just a few months from chipping. This happens despite if the car's only driven several days a week or a track king. The vinyl does not last long and fades / hazes up with daily UV exposure.
