Hmmm
Buying a 911 for every day of the week is not a difficulty for many 911 owners if you look at the economic profiles for Porsche customers(700K). If I wanted to do this, I could, but my childrens future and mine would not be as secure..taking 700K cash, at my age, out of my portfolio would be reckless and self-serving...I would much rather have the resulting 2-3 million(although the current rate of return is somewhat less now) in my portfolio at retirement (20 years from now). I think attacking someone's point of view by stating they are poor or cannot afford to buy a car is suspect...someone is always richer than you.
Each 911 model being better than the previous model...not sure about that...the 996 is not on my list of cars to own again (personally owned 2) At some point, I will purchase a 1994 Turbo 3.6, 1998 c2s, etc...but not interested in owning another 996 model.
Making the decision to buy or not buy a Pcar has not been a financial decision....these cars are emotional purchases...when I saw the first gen 997, I ordered one on the spot and loved every detail of the car(except the car needs to be 1 inch lower)
Seeing(I have not driven the new mkII) the new 911, my reaction was lukewarm. I was left hoping for more "styling" changes that would press my emotional buttons...I guess these doubts led to me and I imagine some people evaluating the real need or desire to make the purchase at all. The mechanical changes may be enough to win over my heart, so I am test driving one today.
When I saw the 997 mkII, my reaction was more analytical...Do I really want this car...I keep hoping that Porsche will build a 911 that takes the styling cues of the 1994 turbo wide body along with the huge technological advancements of the 997!!! Waiting for the "next" 911, or any car, to be revised or improved is a valid position...the pressure or tactics some people use to "force" a purchase say alot about their personality...it is almost like saying, You are not a man(read small genitals) if you cannot afford the new 911... a strategy I have never used in business..I do not believe you sell or convince people of anything through fear or intimidation.
This does mean I think 997mkII's are ugly...far from it...just really like the looks of the MkI better

Nordschleife Master
Those days are long gone. The 911 will flatten out with time, in great part due to the senseless Euro pedestrian laws. PAG is already on record (see some recent European car rag interview of a 911 product dev engineer - Autocar perhaps) saying that the 991 (future 2011/12 911) will have a taller hood. My prediction is that from this point on the 911 classic silhouette will soon change. It already changed when the 996 was launched, but it will change even more and the original shape will be long gone.

997 mk II is a great ride
In closing, the new 997 mk II is a fantastic drive, just drove it today...the people who make the decision to buy one will have a fantastic car and something I will appreciate and admire, just not for its' changed looks...the car is superior mechanically(hopefully reliable?..remember 2000 m3 motors...I do).
PEACE

The directive defines maximum levels for the impact that would be absorbed by a pedestrian or a cyclist in the event of a collision with an automobile. Cars don't have to be "flattened out", and bumpers do not necessarily have to be elevated or otherwise redesigned; the design used to adhere to the directive is up to the manufacturer as long as the maximum levels of pedestrian/cyclist impact-absorption are not exceeded. A lot of manufacturers are testing different materials as opposed to different designs.
After full implementation of the measures, the EU directive is expected to lead to a 50 percent decrease in pedestrian and cyclist fatalities (down to 4,000 from currently 8,000 deaths a year), and to a 50 percent decrease in pedestrian and cyclist injuries (down to 150,000 from currently 300,000).
Over half of all pedestrian/cyclist fatalities are children under the age of 14, and traffic accidents are the leading cause of death for that age group.
So, in fact, this time there is some sense in it.

It is inevitable that when a new version appears, many of the critics are owners of the previous version, who will nit pick the new one to assuage their jealousy.
More power, better fuel economy, nicer interior with more up to date features, yeah I wouldn't want those benefits because I don't like the new bumper?
Makes sense to me, RIGHT!

I think the new 997 is argualbly superior to the mk1 version but only marginally so. I would like the extra power but with a few mods you can get close. Performance differences between the two cars are driver differences for the most part, however without a doubt, stock to stock, the mk2 would be quicker for the same driver.
It's a shame to bicker over one or the other and there is no shame in being quite satisfied with the mk1.

I was beginning to think I was the only one with that reasoning.

So, things I've learned: Don't listen to my Rep and don't listen to a inexperienced Tech:
If the car has Sat=BUMP
NAV/NO SAT= NO BUMP
NAV= NO BUMP
NO SAT/NAV=NO BUMP
I just confirmed this
**********FYI****
I just took out our C2 and C2S with 6 Speed manul; HOLY **** is that car fast!! it feels very different.
I honestly am a little moved; it's the most beautiful and fantastic car I've ever driven.
I need to win the lottery. Seriously this isn't fair

I went out and physically touched all the 09's.
If the car has NO SAT RADIO= NO BUMP.
Nav is exactly the same as before. No Bump if you have nav and no sat.
