Also consider people who did not get the 997.1 in order to get the 997.2. I was ready to buy in June but decided to wait in order to get:
More HP
Better electronics - universal audio!!!
More torque
Launch control
Faster transmission
Better fuel economy
etc...
All while still retaining the classic 911 look.

Think they are just saying mk1 looks better than mk2. Which is strictly a matter of taste, but one I would guess most people would share. Under the skin, the new car may be somewhat better, but it totally makes sense to wait a couple of years to see what the next car looks like. Why upgrade a mk1 for a mk2, which looks marginally worse and performs marginally better at a time of great economic uncertainty? FWIW, that wouldn't make a lot of sense to me -- wouldn't be "logical."
Regardless- end of the day - it's what ever fit's your taste and needs.
But my post is really to those whom haven't even 'driven' the car.

The '09 is a great car. However, I just can't get excited about it at this point. The economy is bad, but people are still buying in this category and the competition is targeting the 911. I just don't see it as a new "launch" at this time.

Your "logic" is flawed, because the ONLY reason you are not buying the MK2 is because you can't afford to take a 40% hit on your outdated MK1. Nothing on the MK2 looks marginally worse. Unless, of course if you think the 996 is better than the 997 and the 993 is better than the 996. If that is the case, go buy a 993 and say that it's the best.

It's like trying to describe to someone what 'Pizza' is, when infact they don't even know what cheese, tomatoes or dough is.
You've had Pizza. Great Pizza. Now go try THIS slice of heaven!

Yeah, the mk2 "objectively" as good looking as the mk1. As usual, you are impressive. These are opinions --- they are subjective. You know nothing about me or what I can or can't afford. I could buy on mk2 for every day of the week, if I wanted. Actually, I could buy more than that. The only thing that stops me is that I am, unfortunately for Porsche and car salesmen, not an idiot.

Yes there were launch cars in 2005.
Just my opin but....they chose poor colors for the 09 launch cars.
Excited?.....well 09 offers enough changes from 02 (in our case) ....... 2008, not quite.

I am not in the market for a new 997.2, but I have no doubt if I went to drive it I would want one. Each iteration of the 911 is better than the previous and that applies to the facelifts as well. If you say you don't agree you're just trying to justify not wantint to spend the money or being unable. For me at the moment it is a bit of both. I know damn well if I had the cash I'd be talking with Likemystoppie about a new 997 C2S with PDK and PCCB right now.

This is funny. I can't remember the last time someone called me an "idiot." Name calling not a tactic employed by adults with good ideas, strong intellects, or healthy egos. Making up "facts" and pretending you know things that you don't is also unpersuasive.
As usual I don't need you to tell me I'm impressive. Just because you don't agree with something, doesn't make your opinion right. For example, the 997 is better than the 996, that is not an opinion, it's a fact. People who disagree to suit their highly individual self-justifying reasons, will say that is your "opinion." I know everything about you and you couldn't afford a new Porsche if you sold everything you own.
Unfortunately for my fingers which feel compelled to respond to you, you speak like an idiot, because only an idiot would ever make such an idiotic statement that they could buy a 100k car for each day of the week. I hope you don't use these math skills when you bill your clients, esquire.
