Wow! Great post and thank you for the effort.

And thanks to Porsche for great engineering.

I exact procedure in a Corvette requires pulling the steering wheel and then pulling out the top of the dash! This I know to be true.

When reinstalling the cluster, whats the trick to plugging it back in? Does that black piece on the plug need to be pushed back up before trying to plug it back in, or do u leave it down then once its plugged in push it back up? Im having a tough time trying to re-plug the cluster in

the black "locking clip" should be down. Looking at it from the door, it should be at 9 o'clock ( I think, might be closer to 8 or 7). I am far more familiar with the Audi plugs, but they are the same style. when the plug is in place, it will have moved itself to 11 o'clock. You need to clip it to straight up (12 o'clock) to lock in the plug.

Thanks, the trouble im having is there just isnt a lot of room to try and plug it in, if i have my hand back there on the left side the cluster is too far away from the pin and it wont reach it

It is a little tricky, but if you feel with a finger where the socket is on the cluster you should be able to line up the connector and push it in to place, then as mentioned above just push the black lever up.

Regarding step 2 how easy is that and does it come completely out? looks like there's like a fabric attached to it and the steering column?

Is this the same process for the TT?

Once the cluster is out, the surround it an easy DIY. Screws all the way around the perimeter and rear, you can't miss them. Once all the screws are out, grab the surround by the left and right lower sections, sqeeze them together to flex the cluster surround and pull forward. Very simple. There's a DIY somewhere, I will find it. I've done this many times, but I have to admit that I have two screws that I forgot to install when I put a CF surround in my current car. They are carefully taped above my work bench in case rattles happen. So far so good. haha

Just adding my experience with removing the instrument cluster. I was doing this in my (unheated, but insulated) garage when it was about -12*C. No amount of pulling would disengage the clips on the back of the cluster. Actually, I think I had one out, but for the life of me could not get the other to budge.

Ended up buying a pair of 2.5" suction cup dent pullers, and had the cluster out shortly after that. Here's a link to the tool:
