I kind of lean towards the manual, but I can understand the rational decission of going for the PDK. Obviously, once I can try PDK it'd be easier to decide

I will order with PDK, but the condition is I will also have a stick shift car in the garage.

I ordered PDK after having driven stick on all my previous cars since my first one. My reasoning:

It's faster off the line (launch control)
Shifts are faster
Shifting in turns properly is easier for an unskilled driver (me)

I would in a NY minute if they used real paddles. Missed the opportunity with the thumb toggles.

To paraphrase the late great Heston I'll let go of the stick when they pry it from my cold dead hands

What you mention is true, but only given the correct circumstances. My bet is that you get bored with the PDK very quickly.

I would want to test drive one for a while before pulling the trigger,.....or pulling the paddle,...well, not a paddle,....whatever that toggle is called.
There is no doubt that cars with PDK are faster off the line frankly probably faster at the track. I think I would miss manual gear changes and feel less connected. Time will tell for may of us.

The guys from Excellence drove pdk and good and experienced drivers that they are, they quickly just let the car do its thing and left it in "D". I suspect that's what i lot of people did with Tip, so maybe no surprise. If that's the case you may be faster, but it's like microwaving rather than stirring something on the stove. It's expedient, but lacks any visceral quality.

That has been my personal experience with automatic cars. I have owned BMW's and Mercedes with automatic transmissions and I thought initially I would use the manual "tiptronic" shifting capabilities sometimes. Well, I played with the manual shifting a few times but essentially i driove the car around in D and left it at that.

Now the PDK is absolutely a huge advance over the Tiptronic. My sneaking suspicion however is that if I owned a PDK, I would drive in D the vast majority of the time and only occasionally fiddle with the steering wheel buttons. That's great if that's what you want. Right now I remain undecided, hoping to try one out soon.

+1. Isn't that the reason to get a sports car in the first place?? I have yet to buy a car with an auto trans for myself since I was 16. Forty plus years later, I'm still shifting!

Those Germans aren't given to acquiescence....(adjustable steering columns, cup holders, etc). Maybe paddles someday (but don't hold your breath..)

I believe I'll wait until they put the paddles on the correct side of the steering wheel.
