Default 10% off MSRP reasonable?

I bought a 2002 which 5 days later had some smoke issues that freaked me out. (see here). I'm going shopping this weekend and would like to know what to expect and want is reasonable for a new car.

Thanks in advance.

Shouldn't be a problem, especially the more loaded cars.

Hell YEAH! It's reasonable and I'll take it. Which dealership do you work for and when is a good time to call?

Oh. Wait. Oh, never mind.

Should be easy on an 08. I helped a friend buy an 08 cab last December for a little more than 7% off list.

Default Depends on what you are shopping for.

If you are looking at limited availability models, getting a 10% MSRP discount can be very hard to attain, if the dealer feels confident they can sell it for close to MSRP before they can get their next one in.

If its a C2/4/S, they are pretty common and more negotiation room is available because they always have those.

If you are buying off the lot, you have negotiation power, as the car costs the dealer money for every day it sits there. If you are custom building, you have less power, because there are no costs to the dealer to build your car, and there's probably someone else that will custom build a car, if you walk.

Given all the changes on the '09, should be very easy to get 10% off MSRP on an '08.

10% should be no problem IF you find a car you want and the dealer has some slow moving inventory. If you are willing to look out of state and travel, you should not have any trouble at all - just might take a few calls. If you find a car you like on a dealer's website, call and ask to speak with the sales manager directly and tell him exactly what you are willing to do. You will get some NOs, but you will eventually get a yes. Good luck.

An ordered car or off the lot? Off the lot 10% off for a 2008 should be easy as cake.

How would he order an '08, isn't the factory closed for vacation and then when they get back they build '09s?

Given the major changes, I don't think there will initially be much of a discount on '09s.

I think the factory is usually shut down for vacation the last week of July and all of August. That's normally when they retool, etc. for the new models.
