Full hood, fenders, mirrors, door handels and door edges. I'm not sure which product the guy used but here is his website http://www.speedfilm.net/

almost missed this thread.

Paint protection film is most visible:

1. white - areas behind tires. White is the color in which would show readily when the film is stained from road tar, petroleum, etc. The area most susceptible for this would be directly behind the tires
2. silver - if you are only protecting a partial hood / fenders, the line shows up in most angles
3. black - when vehicle is dirty, the demarcation point (with partial hood / fenders) is noticeable

How long the film lasts is dependent on a variety of factors:
1. heavily tracked cars' films will last approximately 2-3 yrs in areas directly behind tires
2. how well it is maintained - washed / sealed every 2 months

All other colors are very similar. Without exposed seams, the film is nearly undetectable with a full custom installation. Here are some pictures taken up close and with a SLR camera to show the clarity of the product / installation. Below is another full vehicle wrap on a Black / Orange RS

No doubt it looks great right after application, as the above pictures show, but I'd be interested in seeing side by side views of covered and uncovered paint surfaces (say the fender is covered, but the door not), and seeing what it looks like after 2 years of driving normal roads.

Actually, this particular RS was done in 2 parts:

1. Some 18 mos ago, we installed film onto the full hood, full fenders, lights, mirrors, front bumper
2. Customer came back and noticed quite a bit of chipping in areas that are not protected, so this time around he covered the rest of the car. In the pics above, it shows how well the film holds up on a car like this despite it being black.

Hello, I have 3m on my atlas grey metallic turbo, only covering half of the hood and fenders and mirrors.
My car is kept clean and absolutely glows.
The only place the film shows is at the edge of the front hood....and it is very hard to see.
It is worth it to install the clear bra to avoid the inevitable stone chips that always happen to a fast low car.

The quality of the install and the visibility of the film is certainly what turns some away. Many for the reason it being too noticeable. This again goes to how well clear the installation is. Below are pictures of a RS4 that needed the full hood redone because of (initial installation was not done by us):

1. excessive orange peel (notice the pics with film and without - very noticeable difference in clarity compared to the black RS we posted above. The reflection of the paint comes right through on our installation even on Black vs. the much more foregivable silver RS4 below)
2. heavy stretch marks
3. silvering from improper stretching

These are issues that most see as a problem and stray away from protection.

The customer now wants everything else redone after seeing the possibilities.

These pictures are most likely 3M film right? ( with the orange peel and the triangles at the top of the hood and the stretch marks ) If you guys use 3M some of those issues would still be there right?
You mostly use venture for your applications is what I've been told.....
The difference between 3m and venture is that 3m has a clear coat and holds up better with bird droppings, UVA etc and can't cover the entire hood on these p cars right?
Thanks !

I can't say I like the appearance with it on. It only appears to dull the finish of the paint.

No, the film the other installer had used on the silver RS4 above is by Avery. Stretch marks can happen with any film - it is an installer issue with this RS4 and not a film issue due to stretchage.

I was at SR not long ago, and nobody knew I had a clear bra on my car. Even after telling them it's there, the general response is "where is it?" Yes, I had Premier do the clear bra on the entire front nose from edge to edge.

The black RS is driven almost daily with the areas we wrapped 18 mos ago still looking like day 1. The silver RS4's customer is having the full front fenders redone with our product after seeing the difference between our full hood and the previous installation.
