What does the S mean?
Today an admirer of my '08 C2S walked up and said he once owned a 356 normal, not the "Super". I seem to recall seeing the "Super" designation on early Porsches, maybe the 1800.
Does our current "S" stand for Super or has that monicer gone by the boards. Any histry here would be appreciated.

Porsche assigned the designation "S" because they thought "$" was too pretentious.

"Porsche assigned the designation "S" because they thought "$" was too pretentious." Heh-heh-heh...
.....but you have to admit; "Mine is bigger/faster/better than yours." has been an effective marketing tool since men stood upright.

You guys are so wrong.
It stands for: Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious.
My insiders tell me that starting with MY 2010, PCNA will actually offer to spell it out for you, but only on the 997 wide-body models.

For you youngsters, a primer in Porsche letters...
T -- for Touring. Self explanatory. (The basic car)
E -- for einspritzen. German for Fuel Injection. (One step up)
S -- for Super. Self explanatory. (What REAL men drive).
L -- for Luxe,--for luxury or sometimes long wheelbase. (I think that was in 1968).
SC -- for Super Carrera. The pinnicle of each model's design,--until marketing gets ahold of it.
RS -- for Renn Sport. If you're on the Renn list,--you better know what that means!
CS -- for Club Sport. A cheaper alternative to a Porsche, which lightens the car, as well as your wallet.
And another...
KKK -- no,--not the white sheets guys, but Kühnle, Kopp & Kausch AG . Makers of the turbo charger for Porsche, now known as 3K-Warner Turbosystems GmbH)

I did not know the "E" meaning from the early 911 models...thanks.
As for the KKK thing,....I think it's understandable that the Germans wouldn't want that brand on anything!
